I got bitten to bits on my arms by the Blandford fly, took revenge with propane torch on full throttle, seemed to sort the problem out. It took a good few days for the lumps and bumps from the bites to go down. They are vicious little b******s. Mike |

All these people living longer has ruined the final salary pension and everyone is having to work longer for a worse pension. Maybe he obesity will take over from smoking to get the life expectancy down again, although I have never smoked maybe the high blood pressure and obesity will get me. Mike |

I think smoking should be encouraged, it keeps people thin and sends them to an early grave so they avoid dementia and diabetes Mike |

A friend of mine persuaded his wife that the dishwasher would be ideal to clean his crank cases, it worked very well. A chap who ran one of Oxfords pubs kept his race bike in the bar for a while. Sadly the pub is now a branch of Richer Sounds. Mike |

Get a Volkswagen and you will find a use for those 16 and 18 millimetre spanners, those bolts that look at first glance like torx may well be spline drive. Mike Edited By Michael Poole on 28/10/2016 14:23:35 |

TV, No wonder no one gets anything done. Bitch about subs for a mag going up and pay up to £90 per month to watch a box ?????
Far more interesting things in life. Take Wednesday for instance. Decided to knock off early from work so jumped in the truck at 3:30, Fiat as well [ Oh dear oh dear ] drove up to see the Delectable Debs, only 120 miles, got there at 6.00 as traffic was a bit heavy on the M6.
Had a coffee, hug and cuddle but not in that order and left again at 7:30. Because traffic had calmed down a bit managed to do the return 120 miles in just a tad under two hours.
Now that was a late afternoon and evening well spent. Who wants to be watching a box ? They do say a girl will pull you further than dynamite will blow you Mike |

14 is a common size used on motorcycles and often you will find the finer metric thread pitches and just to be totally mad brake bleed screws can be M7x1. Mike |

As others have said now is the time to consider a comfortable working height , as you have a concrete floor a duckboard or anti-fatigue mat could alter the working height, also gives the swarf somewhere to go so you stop kicking it around. Mike |

We had to dry many motors from flooded pits in the factory, a spell in the oven in the rewind shop soon sorted them out. I once had a large Plc panel suite flooded from an overflowing gutter in a summer downpour. Switched it off and pulled all the modules and blew out the water from the backplane with compressed air blew all the water out of the relays and contactors left a large fan blowing in panel for a couple of hours and then switched it back on all ok apart from a couple of fuses in a pilz safety module, replaced and we were good to go. The watch room often "accidentally" spilled coffee in a keyboard so they would get some peace from the bleeper system. I washed it in a bucket of water, blew it dry and put it on the radiator for half an hour, it was lovely and clean inside and out and no longer smelled of coffee, they weren't all that pleased to get it back so quickly though! As a child I lived in Germany for 3 years so only tv in German available, read lots of books, about 5 a week, as an adult I have worked shift work most of my life so never got hooked by tv. Mainly put TV on to watch news, must be one of the few to not watch bake off final as its quiz night down the pub. Never had Sky as I think most of it will turn up on terrestrial tv eventually. F1 lost a fan through their greed, not worth getting sky for a race every couple of weeks. Given a choice of tv or internet I would bin the tv. Mike |

As an apprentice I too did some of the filing exercises, surely the point of them is to practice using a file and the tight tolerance sorts out the people who have the temperament to keep going and produce the best attempt they can. It will tell you and your employer something about you not just your skill with a file. The fact that the task is difficult but not impossible does not seem unreasonable to me. I have seen some of he work from the youngsters involved in the 'skills olympics' and the standard is extremly high and very impressive that such high skill levels are present in our apprentices. Rik, when I used to go to the show with my girlfriend, we played at 'collecting' the whiffy ones, also (and sometimes they were one and the same) the ones who had no concept of personal space. Typical scores would be 5 - 4 to her. John. Extra points could be awarded for a good thump from a backpack or being jabbed in the face by some sharp purchase, I was jabbed in the cheek by a metal rod in a backpack, uncomfortably close to my eye. Posted by Brian Hutchings on 30/09/2016 18:10:55: I've been unable to work on my Burrell-Boydell as it will be at Forncett Industrial Steam Museum in Norfolk on Sunday 2nd Oct 2916 for the miniature traction engine rally and so I had a look at jobs that could be started independently. Hi Brian, I guess that it a typo and not 900 years notice of the event. Can't go as taking grannies out to lunch. Maybe next time. Mike |
