Thread: Sources of decent quality ER25 Imperial Collets
03/05/2023 11:22:58

Have re-checked Weston's page on their UP collets , and it should read 0.005mm . Apologies gents for my typographical error.

Trevor.

Neil , I merely repeated the company's claims . Suggest any queries or comments you may have should therefore be directed to them . It would be interesting to hear the outcome of such a discussion.

Weston Tooling supply good quality ER25 collets via their UP range with a stated run out of 0.0005mm , but only in metric I believe.

Thread: Reversing switch
02/05/2023 17:28:35

Steve , FYI. Following on from Robert's excellent suggestion , thin plastic sheet is available from model shops such as Leeds Model Shop and Nitro Models in Rotherham. In fact just bought an A4 sheet of 0.020" material from NM for only £2.00. No connection with either supplier. Hope you find this of interest.

Michael , Would you happen to know if BS5733 describes any dimensional requirements please ?

Thread: Remotely oiling a workshop of line shaft machinery
19/04/2023 10:55:43

Maybe worth approaching various suppliers concerned or the museums trust ( or whatever it's called these days ) , or the local council ( providing some child education can be proven ) for some degree of sponsorship ?

The Grease -O-Matics are available with different feed rates . Am sure consultation with the company coupled with variable and logged initial manual monitoring would result in an eminently suitable solution in all facets.

Further food for thought . I eventually replaced the large (leaking ) brass Hunts bearings with Cooper bearings ( they were in Kings Lynn I think ). Basically rather than the shaft having to be machined , they have a split precision machined collar which bolts onto the shaft on which the roller bearings bare between it and the housing . Reliable , long trouble free life , better speed tolerance ( so as to allow easy use of VFD's ) and no hazardous oil deposits on the dark plant room floor.

Search Grease-O- Matic . They were available with different grease types and oils . We used the oil types on the Hunts bearings on our slow revving extract plants and the grease types on the supply plants as well as laundry equipment . Highly cost effective . We ordered ours from a bearing supplier ( Wyko or City Seals I think ) .

The surface car park at New Miller Dam in Wakefield is , or at least was , marked 30 cwt maximum safe vehicle weight. My large old 7 seater Citroen DS estate weighed 33cwt.

Thread: Belt Grinder Upgrades- Rubber Sheathing?
27/03/2023 22:50:31

There are a number of suppliers that advertise in Old Glory / Vintage Spirit who apply a rubber coating to traction wheels of all sizes . Also PAR in Lancashire may be able to help . Maybe avenues worth exploring ?

Blackgates also sell case hardening powder . They had it on the stand at Harrogate . Think it was around £17 / tub.

Thread: Harrogate show
10/03/2023 09:15:09

I spoke with a member of the Showground at 8.30 this morning and she told me that the roads around Showground are clear and the internal roads have been snow ploughed and gritted and that the show is still on .

Thread: Trefolex

Bob , Blackgates sell ( sold ) it . I think it was something over £15 for a tub in 2021 . Assume they are Harrogate from tomorrow and there may be show offers on ?

Also suggest Polly Engineering.

Thread: Bronze - Unsolderable

If , as Phil suggests it is aluminium bronze , then you may find adding 20% - 25% household salt to your existing flux will help inhibit the aluminium oxides from forming .

Thread: Nut sizes imperial measurements, disorientation!

Edward , Why not check with your preferred fittings supplier that their tee pieces and elbows are fully compatible ? Initially fit an elbow , and then simply exchange it for a tee piece as and when required .
