Thread: Motive power for a toolpost spindle

actually they were built in cardiff john so i suppose you are almost correct and for a write up they were made using a cut off saw a myford ml7 and an axminster 25 mill in conjunction with a 6 inch rotary table mounted on an mdf jig for the angled holes.

Thread: Blackening mild steel
08/09/2015 08:25:30

I blacked a number of items with the motor oil method, heat and dip (about 20 items) 30 years ago although in a box they have been stored in a very damp garage and only one item shows signs of rust.

Thread: Multiple machines from one inverter

I have one inverter mounted on a saw and just wired a socket into it which I can plug my other saw. Works fine. ( I never run them at the same time)

Thread: Workshop visitors
21/02/2015 14:27:59

I placed two traps. The mouse trap was near the floor, it has disappeared gone without trace. I can only assume they used my tools to dismantle the trap to find out how it worked. The rat trap was placed at waist high level this I found with mouse caught by the head. ( I knew they could not read. ) just need to find a cheap supplier of traps because if they keep stealing them it could get expensive. A big thumbs up for the peanut butter. Have reset the rat trap and hope to find no more visitors.

Thanks Brian.

17/02/2015 19:41:06

Update. I have been working in Scotland for the week so I now Have purchased two traps. One for mice one for rats. (Not sure if they can read.)

Baited them with sun pats finest peanut butter other products available. Placed them in two separate locations and shut the door for the next three days while I work away in Anglesey. Will hope to be checking Friday with a possible result then. Will hope for the smaller relative as the rat idea stops me going out there in the dark. They scare me more than the misses.

Brian.

Hi fizzy, do you mean life threatening for me or visiting rats.

Brian

09/02/2015 13:14:16

Can't tell how big they are but droppings are large. I will buy traps and jar of peanut butter tomorrow. Forgot to say I was in uk so visitors were not raccoons or bears.

Brian. Ps why when I press return does it jump to the top and not a new line.

Hey guys

I have one or more workshop visitors. I have not seen it or them yet but see their waste deposits. My question is what food or treat do people use to catch the blighters in a suitable size trap. I hope not to come face to face with them whilst machining so would like them to no longer visit. Can anyone help.

Thread: Suitable primer for painting aluminium?
01/11/2014 17:02:45

You really need an etch primer. As the paint will eventually chip and peel off and or bubble without it.

I think you will always be a beginner at certain aspects of engineering but you get better at disguising the mistakes.

I have purchased an mt3 chuck with drawbar thread from rdg in the past they stock metric and imperial threaded chucks I think.

Brian ( usual disclaimer I have no connection but am a satisfied customer who spends too much money at rdg and others. )

Thread: Hammerite has changed

No comment on new recipe. But to prevent the skin forming the can should be stored upside down. Also I don't believe the recipe is cellulose based. I await to be proven wrong.
