Thread: Atlas Sphere Lathe

There is also (I think) a copy of that manual listed on Amazon.co.uk.

Thought that looks interesting when idly browsing yesterday, but I do not use an Atlas machine.

Thread: Myford ML7 Trileva two speed
24/06/2012 21:25:04

Hi.

I have found what little info I gleaned for my machine, (most unusually I had actually put all the stuff in one place), but sorry to say it bears no relationship to what you describe for your motor.

I agree with Phil about getting it sorted by a suitably qualified person.

Hi.

My ML7 Tri lever is fitted with a two speed single phase motor, it was supplied to the original owner in that configuration by Myford.

The motor has something like 10 wires brought directly out to the terminal box on the rear of the cabinet.

There are two capacitors one mounted on the motor, the other one is inside the cabinet near the rotary switch.

I did try to get a wiring diagram for this a couple of years ago at a Myford open day, but none seemed to be available, even via their Electrician.

Have say that if the motor failed I would replace it with an inverter type drive, which would probably be cheaper than a motor rebuild anyway.

I do have a small amount of info on the wiring, and will see if it can be found (might take a few days).

Thread: Harrison Electrical problem

I found some in this country with an EBAY search .

Alternatively try RS or CPC, maybe the local branch of an electrical wholesalers is another possibility.

Did you check that the new bulb was the same rated voltage and wattage as the old one?

Hi.

If there are any colleges or craft centres teaching jewellery in your area they will have the equipment, and may be able to help.

I used clothes pegs as well, can't remeber what the glue was called but remember the card and peg being well and truly bonded on several occasions.

Like most of these things I got better at it with practice until Meccano and Keil craft got my attention.

Happy days.

Micromodels, yes I remember those from my childhood and the difficulties of making them using the glues available at the time.

Think that the finished articles could be rather good, I expect they would be much easier to make with modern adhesives.

Printing up the paper for buildings looks interesting thanks for sharing that.

Thread: myford ml7
05/06/2012 15:34:59

Acess to the back of my ML7 is very restricted but they seem to be about 8mm x 35mm, as its an old machine probably something like 5/16" x 1 1/4".

Might be simplest to measure the motor foot etc on yours to find the right size.

Various motors seem to have been fitted to these machines, and the motorising assembly list in my manual does not actually show these nuts & bolts.

Might be worth asking these people, they supply all sorts of hard to get fixings etc.

Thread: Design conundrum - fitting a new workshop into a space
21/05/2012 18:52:04

As the user of a wooden shed workshop for many years, I can only say that if I was starting again then I would beg, borrow etc to have a brick or blockwork building instead.

I think that: security, moisture proofing, heating, electrics and keeping it all in good order would be so much easier.

That's my thoughts on it, but like everything it is all down to available funding at the end of the day.

Thread: 300 Years of the Steam Engine

Excellent publication, only got part way into it after delivery yesterday, nice to have so much information in one place and the drawings as a bonus.

I ordered direct to save trips into the local town with no guarantee of availability in shops, do not care if it was available at the same time, but do care about wasting fuel.

Hi John.

Great video and your dog certainly looks a lively one, we're without a dog at present but have had 3 GSDs over the last few decades, good fun.

Regards.

It also said no dog owners were allowed into the showground or show

Perhaps they got it right there, many dogs round where I live seem better behaved than their owners.smiley

Not really sure if this is connected or not, but my browser (IE9) seems to have locked up at times over the last few days.

Thread: Methelated spirit blow lamp.
30/04/2012 21:46:37

I remember my Father using a pump up blowlamp, I still have a couple of them polished up for display,  operating the things seemed to involve all sorts of pre-heating etc which I never got to grips with.

Kind of think they worked on parafin not meths, but it was along time ago and my memory banks are not briliant to start with!
