I just threw the bait in for a sort of joke, I've no idea of origins. I'm from north England and bait was /is a normal word. Snap was a strange word used by southerners, or TV northerners. I never heard of lunch until I moved south.

Snap is miners bait.

What happened to string bags? Last for years, keep in a pocket, make your own instead of knitting wooly hats.

Ian- I did build a better mailbox, a little man in a big yellow digger remade it a few days later. Just waiting for all the building work to get finished before I decide on further work. Don't want to upset him as I need my road.

Mags in plastic bags are one of the few times I don't complain. My post box is a mile round trip away, and in bad weather I don't always get to it. Result is soggy mail. I don't mind for bills and ads., but the mags must get thru'.

I've never seen a plastic straw or cotton bud or bought a bottle of water. I have picked up many a bin full of black plastic bale wrap. Plastic super market bags got re-cycled as bin bags, now have to buy bin-bags.

Strange, I've just got back from Cumminstown with a new MOT. Don't get going about Fougie, or however it's spelt or pronounced. At long last I have found why a dyke is a ditch in England and a wall in the north, it is derived from Viking and just means "boundary". A few years ago we were at the Welsh two day trial, in one pub all were speaking Welsh, including the Polish barman. No probs tho' ,very friendly.

Last time I put new bearings into a washing machine it worked very well. After a couple of days a loud noise started from the bearing area. Strip down again , the drum and mountings were broken, stress fractures allover. Bearings still good though. Seems this is common, bearing life = life of the rest of machine.

I switch the computer on, take the dog for a walk ,and the thing works. Win 8 in a black box.

If you do fit a tensioner pulley put it on the non-drive side of the belt and near the smaller pulley. This gives more wrap round the small pulley. A good source of tensioner pulleys is old car cam belt tensioner pulleys.

One job I had They decided I needed a car for site visits, gave me some money to buy a suitable vehicle. I bought a 2CV and They were not pleased. Ideal for the job tho'.

No idea at all. It does look as if something is missing- the "radius" on the two jaws looks to made to fit to something ?

I find all this very strange, and a bit surreal. I don't have a broadband service to support any of these systems so it's just for interest. Voice operated devices don't seem to recognise my accent so gave up years ago. There is no wonder that the population is getting obese if walking to a light switch is to much. I have a radio in most rooms so can just switch on if wanted, ok I have to move my arm and a finger. Please note I'm not knocking these devices, or the users, just bemused.

Just to confuse things- we have the same problems, but it is a gas oven, bottled gas. Wife blames me for door opening etc.. Will check the fan, electric of course, but does seem ok.

I would have a good check on the house wiring, esp. earth. I had some similar problems for a year or more, finally borrowed a sensitive meter which showed earth faults. Traced to an earth, put in by a registered electrician, which was not connected properly. I renewed all the earth connections , had no trouble since. Of course it may well be something else but worth checking.

Mike- have you got a Highland Industrial near you (or whatever they are called) ? About the best around for general purpose and agricultural use timber.

Just in-case anyone is interested- I have come up with an idea for making a hand held de-burrer. Cut 3, or 4, triangular pieces off a cheap "warding" file, cut a conical hole in end of a steel rod. Fix the bits of file into the cone with 2-part epoxy. Have not tried it yet but will as soon as my car stops falling to bits.
