Hi
I modified a masonary drill to remove a broken 10mm stud lower than the surface of a crankcase. Centrepunch the broken stud.
Use a smaller Masonary drill, 5mm worked fine.
Grind the bit to cut Lefthanded, used a battery drill turning slow left attempt to let it bite and the stud unscrewed. used succesfull on Mildsteel , High tensile steel and work like a charm in brass.

Hi Niloch
I agree with the above, used water based cooling while cutting, less dust and cool sharp tool giving better results.
SHARP tools, low feedrate and taking shallow cuts to avoid splitting.

Thread: My subscription is running out |
10/01/2011 10:05:31 |
Hi
I were following this topic for a while.
The bottom line is any case is; Am I willing to pay for something as presented?
If it is a subscription or something on Fleebay does not matter. It does not matter what the price is.
I subscrbed to MEW for the following reasons.
The local shop price is more double what it cost me to subscribe. (5.5 Shop mags pay for a Year)
There is a erratic delayed delivery 2 to 4 months after issue.
Some issues not arriving to be sold here.
It was and still is the money worth of subscribing.

Thread: Which slideway oil is best? |
03/01/2011 08:10:23 |
Hi All
I am Using Chainsaw chain and bar oil.
it is designed not to fly of at highspeed and has good lubricating properties, if it does not fly ot at high speed it will not fall of at slow speed.
Simple way to protect the way by keeping them clean during the turning process;
cover the ways with kitchen paper towels, also easy cleaning later. Take the paper towel and all swarf and scraps stick to paper, coolant runoff into driptray.

Thread: Mills |
26/11/2010 08:17:15 |
Hi Wolfie
End mills start at the end of the material cutting an open ended slot.
Slot mills start in the material and cut a slot closed at both ends.
You can drill a hole and use an end mill but the slot will not be flat where you drilled the hole, except if you plan to have a slot right through the part.
The easy of using a slot drill to go through instead of drilling amd then aligning it in the mill can be a problem, one setup one task.

Thread: Over the Counter |
11/11/2010 08:20:31 |
Hi
Normal conversation is sometimes not a solution, word of mouth advertising has more punch. The owner had the attitude. IF you dont like it, take your money elsewere. I had a situation once where I had to resort to a letter to the local press, I said "I cannot advise you against this shop but cannot recommend this product sold by them, and I will never buy it again from the local store, worth about R1000, or 100 pound, I battled to get a refund on a defective product, the newspaper landed Thursday morning on street. By Lunchtime The manager phoned me and said I can get my cheque when I want it, Sorry I do not accept cheques, as the notice in the shop say they "We do not accept cheques"...
He delivery the cash at my house that evening. I got my money but still say I do not recommend his shop, unless he respect the user right to complain.
He later moved to a smaller shop.. Less purchases less cash in the till...
For me it worked.

Hi All
I have two questions
Do you complain in the shop?
Do you check before you buy?

Thread: Why is everything you buy such rubbish!! |

Hi
There is always a choice, Take it or leave it.
Don't expect Quanlity at a cheap price. If we stop buying cheap and complain to ourselfs it will always be in stock, as soon as something does not sell, the suppliers witll have some dead stock on hand and they will eventualy dissapear from the shelves. My Dad always said, If you buy a screwdriver at the Toy store, it will be a Toy. Buy the best Quality you can afford and expect the quality what you pay for.
It is your choice, buy Junk and get Junk Quality...

Thread: Metric vs Imperial - Practical or Traditional? |
05/11/2010 07:57:25 |
Hi
The bottom line is the egg was laid. Accept that one work in Units that they are comfortable with. I use both. Woodworking is still in Inch standards; Think a little about the odd sizes metric wise that wood working equipment and timber is sold in. Depending on the plans at hand I switch between standards or convert to metric. I still say; Personal preference prevail. Eddie |

Hi All
Talking around the clock would not solve this Metric vs Imperial debate.
We are on page 11 and there is no solution.
Going Binary does not solve the problem.
As a fraction is part of a whole unit. and reading binary is even more problamatic, about a modern day Roman numerals and counting.....
1 = 1
2 = 10
3 = 11
4 = 100
5 = 101
6 = 110
7 = 111
8 = 1000
9 = 1001
10 = 1010
and so on ..
The bottom line is;
Accept the other people can use the system they are comfortable with, and they are also correct.
The answer is the same as which was first, the chicken or the egg.
