eBay is a good source of copper sulphate.

That's the smoothest sounding one I've come across - nicely done!

I did notice you haven't fitted the blue smoke generator, a key feature of the version I built

Thanks for the video clip, I've been looking forward to seeing it run.

If you fancy moving on to a twin, David Parkers Vega 9cc twin is worth a look. There is one running on Youtube.

What's wrong with posting pictures say to Flickr or Picasa and using a link? Those sites are set up to host pictures? No different to posting links to Youtube.

I have just had a bout of selling some stuff on eBay, first time in some years. What a crap expensive experience.

What's the best way of shifting some old magneto's (4 -cyl none working) and related odds and ends?

Might have a PAZ stationary engine to go too.

Thread: FC3 TC3 What does this mean
13/10/2011 19:55:09
I've never thrown away a throw away cutter yet - the day will come I suppose, but as a hobby user they get 1% of the hammer they would in a real shop. The other thing is that I've only used easier cutting steels and alloys, no really hard stuff, so again they last and last in my shed. So I do find them good value.

Polite words on how crap this forum software is failed me...

The ones I had in mind would have been deleted...

But because the software is junk - guess what - there is no delete!

Thread: Stuart governers
08/10/2011 00:03:06
The Stuart Governor kit I bought a while back covers the Victoria, Coombes, Beam and No.9 Engines. I think there is only one governor kit in the range now.

Here is a picture of what's in the Stuart kit

And here is a trial fit from my blog:

I'm with Jeff - more lathe per £ not buying Myford.

Well they say pride goes before a fall!

I thought I would make the timing disc seeing as I'm that close to finishing and I was idly twiddling the camshaft and it suddenly hit me with a thump that the cams were in the wrong positions.

Funny, I made exactly the same error!

Thread: Honey pump
02/10/2011 18:01:54
Clive,
I'm just making a manual water pump (Stuart Models casting). All it is is two stainless balls in a tube, lift the lever water is drawn in at the bottom, push the lever down and it squirts out of the top. No springs, so should be easy to clean, but it would have to be scaled up a fair bit to get a 300mL jar full at one "suck"!

Can post the drawing if interested.

Is 24 hours enough? I'd have thought it would take much longer.
Thread: Holding square bar
01/10/2011 22:06:49
I can't imagine doing this between centres It'll be like a skipping rope!

The right way IMHO is to shoot the bar through the spindle and I think Gordon's idea of using a piece of cork in a tube supporting the free end sounds spot on. An old pal of mine needed to cut a keyway on a 12 foot long propshaft for a boat. The lathe was in the shed, the free end supported in the kitchen...

You'll be needing a can of this soon!

Works everytime, honest.
Thread: Most stable small workbench design to date?

Me too - I screwed a 2inch piece of angle to the bench and then to the wall. Like Derry, it don't move much!

Any books good on the design of the input stages to power / mos FET type devices?

For linear amplifiers or for use as switches? And what sort of power levels?

Regards,

Andrew

Say 10 amps Drain/Source, but I'm interested in the turn on characteristics of switching type devices, what's happening at the gate as the device is being turned on.

Also interested in FETs as small signal amplifiers - how do you get them to operate in the linear portion of the curve (ie how do you design the FET equivalent to a bias network in a bipolar device?)

Not sure that 2HP motor is going to be much use...

Pretty sure these were made pre-1910 by my GreatGrandfather. I think they were fixed to the topslide of a standard Brittania, though that's a guess.
