Thread: Bridgeport E Head

Bob, I had the same problem a few years ago, could not source new plugs and sockets so bought S/H plug off ebay, then found out there were two sizes made and I'd bought the large one when I wanted the small one.

Gave up at this point and replaced the whole lot with red 440v plugs and sockets

Originally never worries me only non working machine tools

But why would you need any Michael?

You never go into the workshop and make anything
Thread: How do I adjust the quill?

Sorry Gary, still don't follow you.
Set your drill on top of the work. Drill down 1.8mm using the DRO then turn the graduated ring until it stops. This is now a dead stop and the drill cannot drop or go any further.
Retract drill, move to next hole an drill until it stops and that will be your preset 1.8mm

The lever a few fine feed control both work through the rack and pinion so it may be here where your play is.
This usually doesn't matter as you drop your cutter or drill on the work, then set the depth of cut. Any play above this doesn't matter unless I'm not reading your post correctly

You would have thought that with all that money involved he could have afforded a bonnet cover?

Not going to happen Jason because I'm not set up for P&P

It's pure logistics and cost which many people never take into account

Seeing as there is only me who is the highest paid person by default, cutting a bar, packing it, doing paperwork and organising a courier will take 1/2 hour so roughly 20 pounds plus at commercial rates.

So logically if I throw it in the skip I save 20 pounds

Probably about 2 pounds on this stupid phone with unpredictable text 😀

Michael,

Yes and yes.
As regards spec I'm certain each bar has it stamped on the end but as I'm away from my workshop I can't check so basically a generic alloy for parts where lightness matter. Like RC cars and planes as opposed to bits for a harrier jump jet

Roger you do, time isn't free

Take a retired person on a basic OAP which I think is about 580 pounds for round figures per month divide that by 4 to get a weekly income and we get 145 pounds

Now divide that by 38,the hours in a working week and we finish up with 3.82 pounds per hour you are being paid
Anyone with extra income from other pensions will get subsequently more.

So next time you spend 3 hours pissing about with a 50p article it has actually cost you 11.45 pounds

Bazyle ,
On a previous occasion when I was clearing a supplementary rack out I offer the steel for free, all you had to do was collect and saw up what you wanted, saw provided.
A total of 4 people rolled up and took probably 5% of what was on the rack. I posted on other forums with absolutely no takers

It's not like I'm in an out of the way place, only miles from junction 24 or 25 of the M1.

As an aside I have a few bars of 2.5" diameter magnesium. I realise that no one will want the full 2 metres so the question is if you were buying any, what lengths would you prefer?

Murray
I put a load of steel shorts on ebay the other week to clear out.
Sizes I thought would be useful to the serious model engineer

Sizes like 6"dia x 8" which would make ideal riser blocks for the 636 series mills. Or a few backplates for 35 pounds that lump.
5"dia x 20" for 40 pounds and a few more like that

No bids at all so they went in the scrap skip

Thanks Jason

Away from my computer and only have a phone.

Go to www.lathes.co.uk and select Myford from the top menu or the list

In the sub menu that comes up, select Super 7

First page about 3 photos down,RH side is a very clear picture of the gear train and the compound gear in question.

Sorry I can't be more helpful
14/06/2017 07:33:44
Have you reversed the compound gear in the train from fine feed into threading mode?

It's got to the stage now where some of the old reciprocal worn out saws are fetching more money than a new cheap compact import.
I think Warcop do a small bench top model that could even fold away into a drawer

Clive, not far wrong but early on recognised the main faults which were the guide wheels and alignment and cured that by replacing the badly cast and machined guides with custom made steel units with adjustable eccentric bearings and a sub plate for these that could move about 8mm in all directions to guarantee that you could align them.

Decent bearings on the idler wheel and a new box section stand bit built in neat cooling and this thing ran foe ages and in fact it only got replaced in a now fully commercial environment when the 6 x 4 became its limitation and moved on to a 18 x 12

Because of the impending downside the 18 x 12 has to go and will be replaced by another 6 x 4 so life goes full circle

The average person has no idea how "open" websites work. By open these are ones you can post on or place orders.

Yesterday the Home workshop advert site got hacked or was attacked
Fortunately it's clever enough to just shut down but it's going to cost my lad possibly 2 or even 3 nights to rebuild this with no loss of data at a time when he's busy with his day job

At the time mine was in a home workshop environment nothing commercial at that time. It's output was pathetic, I could actually saw faster by hand

OK some say you can be doing something else whist it's cutting but I was always waiting for the next piece.
