Hi guy just have a general question, has anybody put a spring under the tool holder to lift it at end of stroke just a small amount and had good results?

Some machines have fancy lifting mechanisms would it be comparable.

Good news, I have received the digital angle gauge mentioned previously.

It works well can recommend it. Good to 2 digital places and auto switch off plus a relative function, this is better than a Wixey.

I usually make sure I have a dab of anti corrosion oil on all my coin cell instruments to avoid cell leakage problems. Not usually a problem with Lithium cells.

Just my luck I guess, I am going to give this one a go who knows it might survive my Jinx [254125037490]

I was wondering if any members have purchased these and had them die for no apparent reason.

I have had 2 of them one being a Wixiey, I do not use them a lot but have found that after a fairly long time on the shelve they were dead, new batteries did not revive them.

I was wondering if they had a built in self destruct.

Soluble oil is OK for band saw and surface grinder but would not use on my mills or lathes which have sumps and coolant pumps, for these I use sulpherised cutting oil and mix it with kerro [or paraffin for the Brits] works very well for all types of cutting. It has been in the machines for a number of years with an occasional top up no rust problems. Any grit contaminants settles to the bottom of the sumps so does not get recirculated.

I noted one user with a Harrison lathe did not like the oil allover the tray, I do not find this a problem on my Harrison it keeps every thing blathered in oil which discourages rust, I do use a lot of rags though.

I was wondering if anybody has noticed a possible error in Garry Liming's download software version, I could only locate version DM10.1 2015 / 06 as against DM 8.4 noted in MEW.

Maybe Carl Wilson could enlighten me .

One should take care in reversing windscreen wiper motors, they are designed to run in one direction only in most cases. Brush position can give excessive arcing with reverse rotation

Door window motors would be more suitable.

Due to high gearing of these motors 10 Amp power supply would be more than enough.

Now you have clarified the type of instrument I would take a guess that access to the internals is through the front.

Remove the clear cover then the indicator needle then the scale gives access to screws holding the front plate on. However unless you are an instrument repair type I would not recommend you do this your self.

Use a 0.9 Aluminum tip these allow for wire expansion and will accommodate the softer flux core wire that has knurling marks on it.

Hi Sean, Usually 3 screws holds the back plate on. Take the back off your old Batty and sit it in some clean kerro [ do not submerge the dial], let it soak for 24Hrs occasionally operate the plunger then let it dry out until all Kerro has evaporated do not blow it out. This should free things up unless there is mechanical damage.

Do not re lube with oil unless you have watch repair oil.

Set both gauges up to measure a known item and compare readings.

After a couple of computer rebuilds etc I installed your program on XP pro and it is running well I like it very much.

Only problem initially was my Avast virus program kept dumping it in quarantine until I tweaked things a bit.

I have not looked for any updates, is there any?

If you have been using older NiCad batteries your charger wont handle Lithium cells go for NiMh types.

Make sure they are fast charge types and a good capacity 3Ah is best.

As for the batteries in general 90% of them are made in China nowadays, even reputable drill manufacturers have quality control problems from time to time.

Look them up on ebay you will probably find replacement packs for a reasonable price, just double check the specifications.

If you have had your drill for 12 years I can only assume you have not used it very heavily but consistantly otherwise your batteries would have packed up a long time ago.So a top line drill is not probably needed Go for middle range ones similiar to Ryobi.

Hi Paul, I had thought that there was some link between the two programs but there is not.

Ihave not tried Alans program but will certainly be giving it a go after my trouble with Shop Calc.

I beg the question that thp paper quality of MEW magazine has deteriated?

I have noticed on current and previous issues how far back I am not sure, are wrinkely and the page suface is not as smooth also not as thick.

Presumably there is some cost saving involved, all I can say is i do not like it and would like the printing to go back to the earlier type.

Any comments would be welcome.
