I have plenty of 0.6mm and 0.8mm MIG tips, but no 0.9mm tips for use with Gassless wire. How big is the hole in a 0.9mm tip (Ie 0.9 + clearance) ?

Also, my local stockist for gas only supplies a gas mix of 86%Argon / 14% CO2. Is this OK for:-
1/ welding mild steel
2/ welding stainless steel (non critical items) with a stainless wire

I had no response, so just wanted to ask again in case someone knew the answer.

Gas should be good for steel ,dont know about stainless .. Hell ,i've run a broach through a 0 .6 tip to use on 0.8 wire before now ,on a sunday when the shops are shut . Pretty loose , otherwise it jams and birdsnests in the welder ! Heads Up ! Toolstation doing big screen auto SIP mask for £34 and they're good !

Just open it out with a 0.9mm drill, as long as the wire feeds it will be OK.

That gas is good for steel only, for stainless you need pure argon.

Why would you need gas with gas less wire ?

Perhaps I didn't explain enough. 0.9mm tip for gas less wire and gas for Standard wire (0.6mm & 0.8mm). I have to swap the cables about between Gas and Gas less wires.
Thanks for replies.

Use a 0.9 Aluminum tip these allow for wire expansion and will accommodate the softer flux core wire that has knurling marks on it.

Reverse polarity for gasless wire

Answering my own question,
0.8mm wire runs through a .8mm tip which has a hole diameter of 1.0 mm Drill #60
0.9mm wire runs through a .9mm tip which has a hole diameter of 1.12mm Drill #56 approx
