So many 'Plumbers' think they are competent Plumbers. With the introduction of push fits, Yorkshire fittings are a mystery to some. Regards Ian. |

As an addition to Peter's post on NHS admin. and not to clog the Banks thread, when a few lumps appeared on my left shin, had to go through the performance of ringing the local Surgery for a telephone appointment for a doctor to ring me back for him then to decide I then needed a face to face appointment which was rather obvious at stage one but we have to jump through hoops to determine this. On observation, we then decide an Ultrasound is needed but will be informed when. Four weeks later, a letter bounced onto the mat, which had been written the week before, informing me that an ultrasound had been arranged for a week later, five in total from original Doctors appointment. Now in the past, I've had out patient ultrasounds done at a local Hospital about two miles away BUT, this one to be carried out at a Health Centre (?) TEN miles away. Clocked in five minutes early to be told U/S machine had gone u/s and they were waiting for a replacement which would take between one to one and a half hours to arrive so did I want to go home and arrange another appointment? I opted to wait. An hour later I was called through and was stuck on a consulting couch. Despite having the relevant notes, we then had to determine WHERE the Technician had to zap. Five weeks ago they were THERE, so after the lubricant blather and waft around we then had a result which if there was a problem, my Doctor would inform me. Glancing round I determined the Ultrasound machine was in fact a laptop but rather than have a 'Spare' with the operatives, and we ALL know about Murphys law, a replacement has to be shipped in from miles away. It seems that these operatives roam to various sites, as when I suggested why not take a spare, just in case, one said they weren't trusted to have the Password for the Health Centre they were at. My initial thoughts were it could have been a thrombosis near my shin. Obviously wrong as my right leg is still working Glad it wasn't something "Serious" Regards Ian. |

Not only volatiles and corrosives, Good old RM failed to deliver a couple of bottles of highly dangerous Steam Oil. Strangely enough, they didn't seem top have a problem with Ketone????? Regards Ian. |

No matter where the event is held, it will always be too far to travel for some. In the days of good old Alley Pally it was well attended, just think, if it was held thereabouts now, at the time it used to be, how many would attend THIS year?? Regards Ian. |

One thing we have been forced to accept, thanks to electronic banking is the fact that there is an 'Allowance fund' to cover electronic fraud. No matter how many "Safeguards" are built into electronic security(?) someone somewhere will crack it. Data Protection? B******t. OK., outdated system but I prefer to look someone in the eyes when they're trying to steal my Brass. Regards Ian. |

Lucky to be able to use both as there are branches of both in local town within easy access of each other. Regards Ian. |
Thread: Slow Speed Grinder? |

Standard grinder at Skool woodwork section was a water blathered 6" wide by about 2 1/2 foot diameter slow running sandstone. Secondary op was on well oil soaked oilstones followed by a liberal stropping on leather pads.. Never managed to detemper the cutting tools and yes, some can manage to kill the hardness of HSS using a standard bench grinder due to over heating. Regards Ian. |

Problem with Building Society.Recently tried to transfer trusteeship of an account and as a wrinkly, times are no problem, BUT, party to be transferred to works for a living so having to take half a day off to action this is a pain. Pity that when Building Societies converted to Banks, they didn't have Saturday or convenient opening hours built in. Didn't realise the AA had become a Bank? Regards Ian.

Careful when you knock Bradford Nigel. It's about to become the "City of culture" But yes, I agree and have lived here for more than seventy years, but it wasn't all bad. Regards Ian. |

The original hall was demolished and rebuilt with a much bigger footprint. With regards to my original posting, this was done after being informed by the chairman of a model boat club near to me. Seems the muddle ingineers were too busy in their workshops to see this. Problem with the original shows at Harrer gate was it became too expensive. We'll see what next years offering turns out like. Secret to Fish and chips, in YORKSIRE they're cooked in proper fat. Pity the fish is not always cod or haddock. Regards Ian. |

And on a smaller scale (?) when the bloke used to come and service the works master clock, he too adjusted the rate using weights on the pendulum. Does mean of course you can alter the timing without stopping the clock. Rescued it when conversion to electronics, it was destined for the tip. Regards Ian. |

Deliveries are separated by an internal door and a radio so sometimes a knock on the door is not heard. When post office delivered a parcel recently by a very light knocking method, I was lucky to hear it. Got to the door and informed deliverer than I couldn't always hear a knock nut the bell never failed. "Oh yes, I've just seen it" Must admit, it's hard to spot a black push button assembly on a white UPVC door frame. Although a Tracked delivery I was surprised not to have to sign for the £10k package. I did receive, within seconds of delivery, an e-mail telling me it had been delivered. Regards Ian.
