Thread: Left handed lathe. |

As a left hander i seem able to swap hands depending on job, i bat left handed but bowl with my right, when i played squash i constantly changed batting hand, when washing up im constantly swapping hands which drives me nuts to be honest, only thing difficult is scissors esp the moulded handles that dig into your skin. Life would be boring if we were all the same. Mark 🌝 |

You may have dodged a bullet. Some of those aftermarket imitation Myford vertical slides are not as well made as the the originals. I would buy a good used secondhand Myford one off ebay. Most have never seen much work and even come in the original box. Also, if you are not going to do specialised gear cutting with a dividing head, get the fixed slide, not the swivelling. The fixed slide is much more rigid for general milling work . Thankyou 😊 will start a new search tomorrow 👍 OK, but I've been using a Myford double-swivel slide for more than 20 years now, first on a Myford Speed 10 and now on a Warco WM250V. I've only found any rigidity issues if I got greedy with depth of cut when flycutting steel, and they were more with narrow crosslide than with the swivels themselves. I've found the swivel very useful for all sorts of purposes. 👍 interesting. |

Im just bloody cross at myself for putting it in the basket and not buying straight away, i didnt expect to get turned over by a price rise whilst in the basket. I should have told chronos nothing and just bought it. You live and learn. |

Decided to buy a milling slide and vice for my Myford ML7 and decided on the adjustable chronos one with vice, thought after checking ebay that id look at the chronos site to see if it was cheaper or any discount codes available. I found that on their own site it was over 30 pounds more so thought i would let them know and ask for a code to buy it direct from them bypassing ebay, what happened was they altered the price on ebay to match their website, so even tho it was in my ebay basket ready for me to buy the price jumped up 30+ pounds. My anger at myself for not just buying the bloody thing was increased by chronos being unwilling to honour the previous price for me. Arghhhhhhhhhhhh 🤬 |
Thread: Exhaust port |

Thankyou everyone, the picture with the blue face to the block is how i imagined it should be 👍 will get drilling |

Im currently building my first model engine and before i get any further, have a question. Should the valve block have an exhaust port drilling on either side of the port/piston, its the potty engineering horizontal mill engine that you can build without a milling machine. As i cant see how it wont just pressurise both sides. Cheers Mark |

Sorry to jump in but i need help, im building my first engine (the potty mill engine) and the piston valve block shows no exhaust ports on the drawing. Is this correct ? Ive seen a few videos of them running with nothing to give me a clue unless there are drillings on the underside. Cheers Mark |
Thread: Hello from sunny Yorkshire |

Im thinking internal combustion although hot air engines look interesting, steam would be great but i presume the boiler is expensive regarding testing etc so thats ruled out for now. Having no milling set-up may need to change i think but for now im still so clueless as to which way to go. Mark PS - have seen some model plane/boat engines, but have no idea how glow engines run or what you need. So might need to investigate those too! |

Hello all, im Mark a newly 60 retired mech engineer. Havent used a lathe since the 70s until this last year with my new little myford, now possess a pillar drill too, internal garages are not the best workspaces but its all i have. Just finished restoring a Montesa 348 (1976) and quite fancy a go at a small engine of some description. Any suggestions glady accepted, ive looked at a few kits and to be honest im no nearer a decision.. cheers Mark |
Thread: Toolpost question |

You can still turn the whole post if you wish, unless you pin it in position. Which obviously needs to be very carefully done to ensure its parrallel to the chuck. |

Jusr had a lovely message from PeWetools in germany, telling me his story about his multifix toolpost and the devopments using china as his supplier, was a very i interesting read. |

Found all the dimensions online and ordered the Aa size as its within spec for the toolpost base to chuck centre, chose the german multifix although i believe they all come from china. Anyway its a nice birthday present to me from my wife . |

I have a myford ml7 and thinking about a qctp, will a multifix type A fit or will i need the smaller Aa, i like the 40 point system, but any other recommendations greatly accepted. Cheers Mark |
