It would be nice if they could keep bikes on public walkways under 30MPH, now that WOULD be genuinely useful for the public Edited By Ady1 on 08/09/2023 19:48:17 ---------------------- It would be better still if police actually enforced the illegal cycling on pavements and pedestrianised areas but they would rather chase cars. Cyclists seem to think it's o.k to power along footpaths, speeding up behind you with no warning as they hurtle past. |
Thread: The crumbly concrete problem |

Exactly the same happened with Spaghetti junction flyovers which involve 559 concrete columns being replaced, also large overhead sections of the M5 at Oldbury near West Bromwich caused long delays for many months |

I don't think a lesson in bad manners is an appropriate use of this forum.
So behave yourself, don't show your bad manners, didn't your folks teach you anything? Mine taught me manners, they also taught me that manners go out the window when suffering fools and hypocrites!
-------------------------------------- No, it's quite clear that "your folks" taught you how to be rude and condescending and trying to belittle other peoples comments. This forum is a friendly group so take a chill pill before you blow a gasket.

That's a lovely old lathe Vic, even sounds wonderful when running, Theraputic like my shaper. I've seen Pittler lathes advertised before without realising how versatile and clever they were. Never stop learning. Very interesting video's thanks for posting the link. Dave ---------------------- I like the noise old machines make as well Dave, the belt clicks because I haven't scarfed the joint but I like it, also noise comes from the big heavy countershaft fitted up above as well as the various gears and spur wheels! This is just for belt slipping if you get further problems Have you got the instruction booklet for it and how are you fitting the belt? You may have to loosen the two bolts near the front and pull it forward and tighten it, then put the belt on the motor pulley and then start feeding it on the big pulley and turn it as it forces the belt to follow. it will then try to move off the motor pulley so tap with a soft hammer and continue forcing the belt on, that's what the instructions say. I can scan the instructions if you haven't got one

My 1895 vintage lathe has a powered ball turner, it can be set to turn ovals, spheres and even a ball in the middle of a length of metal bar. Here is a 90 second video powered ball turner Just had a watch of some of your video's. A great old lathe you have there. Plus a ingenious ball turner. Steve. -------------------- It is an interesting machine for sure, the ball turning can be set fast or slow via settings of worms and wheels etc. and a superfine mirror finish is possible. I have experimented turning a ball in the middle of a length of metal with an extreme taper either side for which the headstock was swivelled over 7 degrees for this, it can actually swivel 20 degrees. I must experiment more

Thread: Lazer printer |
06/08/2023 14:52:08 |
I had already blacklisted Epsom after my printer failed less than one week after the warranty ended and they didn't want to know when I complained. I was using it a lot for my work back then as well. I then bought a HP printer and eventually the same thing happened even though HP cartridges also have the print head incorporated, I still found they fouled up if not used for some time, The printhead cleaning process didn't save them either so mine ended up in the local tip and I bought my Xerox

After endless problems with Epson and HP printer jets drying up from lack of regular use I bought a Xerox B215 multipurpose laser printer which can also print both sides of the paper Although it's only mono it is the best printer I ever bought as of course it has no liquid ink to dry up. So far I am still using the original toner cartridge after several years of use. I think the B225 is the current similar model at around £169 on Amazon

Thread: Holbrook 10B |

Hello Guys. I'm new here, Ive come across this thread while looking for a lathe. It has to be a Holbrook, as I have many Holbrook bits and pieces laying around as Richard Anderson was my father in law (by the way, he hated being called Richard and much preferred Dick, in fact Richard just made him angry) He was a cantankerous old git, and as tight as a fart but the best bloke I ever met, so putting any other lathe in my new workshop wouldn't be right.
--------------------------- I visited Dick in the 1980's,where he printed me a manual for my B8, I think his house was in Rugby? He showed me his rare Holbrook with a speedometer dial fitted, I can't remember what model it was, he did a lot of complaining about the takeover and loss of the Holbrook brand but he did end up with the blueprints for some or all of the lathes. He suddenly spotted the little tailstock oil dipper was missing and I'm sure he thought I had nicked it! What happened to all his stuff when he died?

Thread: Do you need an oil change with less than 10,000 miles in 10 years? |
22/07/2023 09:23:55 |
I wonder how oil depreciation applies to hybrids, the engine on my Prius is off for 50%+ of the time so for10,000 miles the engine was probably running for less than 5000. The engine would still be turning but with valves open and no spark. It uses no oil at all and retains it's original colour right up to the service time. |
Thread: Sourcing a small, 1/2" bore pulley for a Mini Lathe (Flexispeed Mk1) |

I found This company were one of the best, they will also machine any sized bore that you want, either imperial or metric and add keyways and grub screws for extra charge as well |
