Hi Peter, I often ask myself the same question regarding jeans full of holes. Whoever came up with that idea must indeed be laughing his head off ! Thinking back to my working days, I was a trend-setter and never knew it, since most of my jeans ended up ripped to bits or full of holes and got dumped. They would be worth a fortune now ! What do people see in them ? Am I missing something ? |

As the Bard said "What,s in a name?" I gave up paying attention to any Brand name many moons ago. Pick any Brand name you like, and ask where are they made, and by who ? As they say around here "T,is all about money, me boy " |

Still a lot of lolly for a little lathe. Looks like I might have to stick with my Chinese Craftsman rubbish machine for a while longer ! Cruel world ! |

Baking trays, pots [no longer required by SWMBO ], where would we be without them ? Also the old" piece of wire in the tailstock trick ", great for catching spacers or thick washers. Simple, but they work ! |

There are many jobs for which a file is the only tool suitable. They are not intended to be used to remove huge amounts of material, but instead to remove that small spot which cannot be reached with the angle grinder, or to dress the final bit of the job. I am no expert with a file, but I do use them often and could not get by without them. Do not look down on them as "Old Hat", they have been around for a long time. Get used to using them and you might be surprised just how useful they are . |

Good morning Andrew, You are not missing anything, I simply mentioned this in case it might be of interest to others. A tank is no problem, on old cooking pot will serve well enough. Please accept my apologies for any upset, just convert . |

What,s wrong with using a pump from a scrap washing machine ? Been using one of those on my bandsaw for the last 10 years or more, simple, cheap, effective. |

I often wondered why I was getting such poor results on some jobs, but now I think it must be due to the many chips on my lathe ! Strange how little things like that can have such an effect. |

Thread: Drill bit storage |
13/05/2022 18:48:40 |
All my drill bits from 10mm up are stored in short pieces of plastic conduit or waste pipe, with one end plugged with a piece of wood.. Result ? No more damaged edges on my big drills, nor marks on their tapers.. Smaller drills are stored in their own drill set boxes. Milling cutters, the same. Not Hi Tech, but it works ! |
