No offence intended.blush

Leave them alone until they get their act together, they may need you more than you need them.cheeky

Thread: B&D workmate
25/04/2021 14:50:45

I have several of these benches, one of them a Workmate, the others are clones [Chinese junk ] which are easier to open and fold up and just as good in every way. I bought them for 15 Euro in Aldi,s years back and am still using them. Not much to go wrong with them, and easy to fix if required No way would I pay mad money for a B&D model, they are good, but not THAT good. They all do the job.

I often have to use them to set up a bench to do something because my "Real" bench is cluttered up with junk.

Am I alone ??

Thread: Drilled Hole Tolerances
24/04/2021 16:25:57

Takes me all my time to try and sharpen them, never mind about the "finer" points.

Anyone else in this club ? Dont be shy "laugh

Thread: End Mills and coatings
24/04/2021 07:57:59

What,s that old saying about the workman blaming his tools--------------------?

I have no coated end mills of any kind and I machine mostly BMS. Dont have any real problems with them and they are cheap enough to replace. Any time I did/do have a cock-up, it,s my doing, not the cutter.sad

Thread: Plumbing Overflow - Help!
19/04/2021 18:41:16

Dave, when dealing with house repairs, old or new, the first thing you need to learn is that there is no such thing as a "Handy" job. That 5 minute job usually turns into a 3hour one and still might not turn out right.

How do I know ? Dont even ask !

Best thing to do, is to make a total mess of the first job, then you will not be asked to do any more !

Hope this helps.

Life can be so hard at times !!cheeky

Thread: Drunken pulley
15/04/2021 14:33:09

That would drive me nuts ! even looking at it.

I would bore it out and fit a sleeve to be bored [not drilled ] to the correct size.

Not that big a job and at least, you know it,s right

Thread: Swarf:
15/04/2021 14:27:25

I am the local producer of swarf, in fact that,s all I seem to produce.

I bet there are many more like me, not too far away from you.

Try your local recycle centre, that,s where I get rid of mine.

Thread: Kuroda Boring & Facing head

Dont have one of those units myself, but if I did ,John,s input would sure help to sort things out !

Well done John, nice to know that there are people like you around !

Thread: Loctite or Draper? Much difference?

EGA Business is business, my boy ! What they dont know wont bother them.

Thread: Laptop with a SD card slot
12/04/2021 12:53:39

Welcome to the brave new world of laptops ! I found the same thing when I had to replace mine.

When I asked about the slot for playing discs, they looked at me as if I had asked for a piece of moon rock.

They then explained, as if talking to a half wit, that "these things" are old hat. Such kind words !

I used to burn discs on my old unit, but I have no idea how this could be done on my present laptop.

Sad to say, due to the current "lockdown", I cannot even call on the services of the local 6 year old consultant.

Life is not simple.

Thread: Bandsaw - wood and metal ?
11/04/2021 16:22:48

I have a Startright upright bandsaw for wood cutting [was never happy with it, even for that ], tried cutting light sheet steel with it, learned very quickly that it did not like it and it was rather scary. Speed is much too fast and material too difficult to control, and this was even with a suitable blade.

Horses for courses, I think. As regards cutting 5" round anything, you are a brave man !

Thread: Face Knurling...
11/04/2021 16:11:11

Jason, you do have a simple answer to most things !

Never needed to do this, but who knows ???

Thanks for the tip.wink

Thread: Bending brass - hot, warm or cold?
07/04/2021 09:55:02

One of my jobs in a past life was to bend 1/4" round brass bar to 90deg. I heated it to red heat, let it cool then bent it.
