Thread: Run out on bar |

As with Speedy Builder5, I too "open with one, tighten with three", lathe or drill chuck. Why ? no idea, except I was told to many moons ago. As regards 3 jaw chucks, I used to think they were "Dead on" ! Wishful thinking, which is why I now use my 4 jaw, even if it takes a bit longer to set up. Not that much really, once you get used to it. |
Thread: Music on TV Programmes. |
05/11/2021 09:30:27 |
Like many others, I became so fed up with that background "music" [racket ], that I no longer watch TV. Last time I watched was almost 12 months ago. Do I miss it ?, not really, same tripe all the time, and there are so many other and better things to do.. Am I alone ??? |

Might be worth while checking out Sparey, he explains this very well. |
Thread: Chuck Guard |
03/11/2021 12:17:46 |
Like many others, I removed mine, as I found they were A-P-I-T-A, making it too difficult to see what was happening. I suppose they have to fit things to comply, but I doubt if many use them. One of the guys in Chester told me that if you fitted all the guards to every machine, you would not be able to use them ! |

Thread: Tapmatic tapping head |
29/10/2021 17:16:32 |
I have a K3MT3 tapping unit, bought from Chronos, many moons ago, which has a fair amount of side play but seems to be unaffected by it. It still produces good tapped holes [most of the holes I want are 10 0r 12 mm ], so, cannot complain. Seems like floating play is considered to be OK. |
Thread: An Uninvited Guest! |
29/10/2021 17:03:31 |
I think you should leave well enough alone, it looks very well, gives a nice "Natural" look to the place, much better than all that dirty swarf. In time you could have a few nesting birds in there, chirping their pretty little songs while shitting all over your gear. [have seen it happen ! ] I think I might talk to that thing with a blowlamp. |
Thread: Is it possible to machine a lathe more accurate than the one you machine it on? If so, how? |

Oily Rag, I seem to remember that trick of the cord and the weight from somewhere else, dont remember where, but I did use it. |
Thread: Ferrous, facing, HSS tool geometry |
24/10/2021 15:33:23 |
Like S O D,I took Sparey,s advise and have never had any problem using HSS tools. They are cheap, easy to shape, and easy to replace and they work. What,s not to love ? |

Thread: Lathe query. |
21/10/2021 16:51:59 |
I moved house a few years ago, but sad to say did not get either 3 ph or lathe as part of the deal ! Lucky you ! Fear not, someone here will sort out your problems. Starter may simply be burned out. I would just buy a new unit ant take it from there. |
Thread: Progress with the Progress drill |
21/10/2021 09:42:49 |
I am surprised that no-one has been able to help with this problem. Sad to say, I cannot offer any advice, but someone out there must have come across it before. I would be very interested to know just how it,s held in place. |

She looks like a good solid machine, beautiful gearbox and a good solid bed. May have been through the wars, but still plenty of fight left in her. A good clean up will do wonders and she should give many happy hours turning. At the risk of being nosey, what did she cost ? |
