This may or may not help, on a hard zoom my circles still become octogons until I give it a manual REGEN

Inches fit better on a dial calliper than millimetres.

0.1" just works for one turn of the needle without getting too frantic.

2mm for one turn with diametrically opposing zeros is kind of icky.

I am getting to know FreeCAD, the price is right and there are lots of helpful YouTube movies about using it

If we can free up a few new gas fields, while the Germans buy all the gas that nice Mr Putin is prepared to sell them, then we could end up with a gas glut and those wonderful comparison sites could get us back to normal PDQ. Capitalism is the key, buy your petrol where ever it is a penny cheaper and the price will fall, panic buy and it will rise. Lots of lovely new gas discoveries in English territorial waters but why go offshore when you can frac?

I see the attraction in antique dividing heads but the days of picking up a bargain on eBay are long gone. All too often they are missing useful things like foot stocks, division plates, chucks, worms etc.

I am well pleased with my cheapy BS-0 clone. Many YouTubers try to persuade me that they have perfected the beast by changing the odd bearing, clamp or thrust washer here and there, but I think they are merely stealing the applause from our Asian chums who managed to put together this wonderful machine at such an unbelievable price.

So what would you change?

I do suffer from losing things that are in plain sight, right under my nose. The simplest solution is to get someone else to look for it. Wife dropped her cigarette lighter in the bathroom, searched for hours, I found it in about 5 seconds flat. Perhaps because I had no preconceived notion about which direction it had taken?

I got my bandsaw when I changed workshop. The exiting tenant sold me his steel collection and his bandsaw at bargain prices. I failed to smell the rat.

I eventually decided some bandsaws are simply cursed.

After a year or so I managed to exorcise mine by becoming bored while waiting for Hermes and whiling away the time taking it apart. Once I uncovered the fault it was stupid and very easy to fix.

If you require divine intervention with your saw, I recommend Hermes. Buy something vital to your project with SpeedPAK Economy China mainland shipping. That should do it

According to the circuit diagram, the green wire should go to live via the fuse, probably where it enters the switch.

Disconnecting the green wire will kill the little green light above the fuse, nothing else.

The best bit is when you fall over and young girls rush in from all directions to help you back on your feet. Health workers treat me like an idiot and I love it, I make no effort to help and no effort is expected of me. We were stuck in the snow in the foot hills of the volcano Katla last week and I was chosen to drive because I was not built for pushing. I sat in the warm, successfully drove backwards 2 feet and became a hero. Why wasn't it always like this?

The broach goes from 15mm to 16.65mm in one pass. The shim is 1.65mm thick so this broach must be that cheapo, coarse cut jobbie you describe. The tooth form dictating the shim.

Curiously it has 22 teeth so I expected 0.075mm / tooth, but the chips are over 0.4mm thick and nowhere near the 60mm length of the cut. Part cut, part crunch it would seem.

Anyway, the keyways are cut, the job is done, the broach survived. I have some aluminium to cut next, that has to be easier. Doesn't it?

I can't see that slotting the arbour would cause significant bending. I put a 15x10mm trench in the broach guide and that seemed to stay straight. A longer 6x3mm groove is nothing. Is it?

The guide was slightly longer than the part, but it was also slightly too big for the hole in the table so I had to cut it flush. I am cutting in two passes using the backing piece that came with the broach. It has the correct length. The cuttings are on the chunky side, I will try clearing them halfway through...

Is there any way this could be normal? I am a novice broacher.

I am not doing at all well here. I can't change it to 450mm wide, much too late for that. You will have to use your fertile imaginations

I got 2 horizontal arbours with my mill and the 22mm is missing a keyway.

I am cutting a 6mm keyway in to Chinesium steel spacers and part ways through it starts to go clunk every time a new tooth starts.

Doesn't seem to do this for experienced keyway cutters on YouTube so it must be me.

What am I doing wrong? I tried so hard, this is jolly unfair

I got a sweet deal from Sky. I did rather wonder if they were trying to sign me up pronto before 4G knocked the bottom out of the market, but no complaints. Being geriatric I have a weird notion that land lines are sort of essential, like TV licences and manual gearboxes

Technically illegal but I could not resist.

I am unlikely to start making illicit Lewis guns, which I understand to be a modified Maxim, unless you know of a market for them?

There is always a war somewhere. If you ban every topic anyone finds distasteful or annoying then you are left with donkey rescue and kittens

Two thoughts: If using paraffin, avoid peristaltic pumps, paraffin degrades silicone tubing. If you are using it to despike a 6 pounder cannon, do not look down the barrel when you hear it start to break through, the paraffin fumes will detonate. It only goes chug but makes you jump and your eyebrows will be at risk.

So they buy cheapy Chinese stones, give them a quick whizz on the grinder then sell them for hundreds of bucks apiece to dupes who saw their favourite YouTube machinist use one he got for free.

Of course, if they paid the Chinese a bit more they would grind them super flat. They are doing 99.9% of the manufacturing anyway and are much better equipped
