Thread: Changing internet providers
11/10/2019 17:39:30

I live in the East Midlands and have Virgin broadband & phone + 3 mobiles. Just into year 2. I have no complaints whatsoever with speed etc. Now paying much less than I did with BT and no line rental. My connection speed is always over 200Mbps. The most I ever got on BT was 63Mbps Never a problem on Virgin no matter how many pc's tablets or phones we have connected. And calls between all our mobiles and landline are free.   Just tested my old BT email and it is still live at no cost

Thread: qctp tool holders ( shopmade)
04/10/2019 20:58:42

Nice job on the qctp & tool holders. I cheated and bought my qctp but did make 10 extra tool holders for it. When you make your own you can modify some to fit odd or over height tools.

Thread: Antique car electrics
01/10/2019 19:59:54

I have never been on a forum where every answer conforms to the wishes of the OP. Do the moderators have to keep coming back time after time ad infinitum to move posts that are not to the OP's liking ? I agree that it can be a little tedious wading through off topic posts but a little wading can be fun some times. smiley Off topic posts are a fact of life as far as I know. devil. It does not matter how much you try to moderate them they still keep coming and we learn a little more each time. regards

Moderators - Could I ask that these posts about restoring current cars in the future be moved elsewhere? This thread was intended for antique car electrics as the title says. I welcome any comments on the 1926 Peugeot electrics or other antique car electrics matters but don't want to wade through piles of speculation on the future.

Thread: sink fitting help
19/09/2019 20:10:37

The problem with using adaptors from one size to another is that the pipe work soon gets to be very long. regards

19/09/2019 20:07:05

Problem is these days there is a mix of 1.5" and 40mm fittings. You can get an adaptor to join the 2 but you may have to search for it. As JasonB says it might be simpler to go to Wickes or B&Q and get a standard sink waste then every thing will fit together. I do not think your standard trap will fit the waste.   regards

I think you need to put in a short length of 40mm pipe as that is a compression fitting on the bottom of the waste outlet. You can then fit a "P" trap either shallow or standard to the pipe stub. The 10mm (presumably or possibly 1/4"bsp) male end of the tail should screw in directly to the new tap base. The female end will fit the end of a 15mm compression ( or soldered on ) to 1/2 bsp stud straight connector on the 15mm copper water pipes. If you need to connect to a standard old fashioned 1/2" bsp tap you have the wrong tail. You will need one with 1/2" bsp female on each end.

Hope this helps. regards

Thread: Meddings Drill - Help Finding Grommets or Glands
16/09/2019 22:43:28

Nip down to your local electrical wholesaler ( Senate or City Electrical or similar) and explain the problem to them. Most are very helpful. They will have a range of stuffing glands that will almost certainly sort you out. From plastic to S/S & Gas tight. 50p > £20. Failing that contact Meddings but be prepared to pay through the nose. Hope that helps.

WHY OH WHY are people afraid to say EBAY on this forum. Much quicker to type than "That well known auction site." Everybody here uses it probably so what is the problem with using the correct name. ?

Sorry for the rant but just one of my pet hates along with teh .

In that good video the chap referred to 'precision ground stones'. I've never heard this term before, not even on this forum! Are these just ordinary stones ?

Thread: Disposal of workshop contents
02/09/2019 18:49:19

When a friend had to retire and sell off his engineering/machining business in Leicestershire 3 years ago because of ill health he used an auction company specialising in that type of business. The machinery comprised of CNC lathes and mills. Manual lathes/mills. Forktruck/cranes etc. Grinding/welding equipment and all the other accoutrements collected over a 40 year career. They came in and "lotted" all the machines and large items and materials into groups and listed it all online. He had to make sure every thing was cleaned and in advertised condition. The auction was all online only although there was a viewing day at the unit. Everything sold that was put up for auction and the prices seemed fair to him. He had to get everything disconnected from the mains supply after viewing and the buyers were responsible for removing whatever they bought via the auction from the unit. In the 3 days after the auction the unit was cleared cleaned and closed up. He did decide to keep a good percentage of all the hand tools and small tooling such as cutters, measuring equipment etc beforehand. We have been listing many of those items on Ebay for the last 3 years and it is selling little by little but it is a very slow job. He now realises that he kept far too many items "just in case" Good luck with the disposal.

I have several oilers similar to Vic's some with flexi spouts and some with tube style spouts.. I use one on my AUD oilers and another for way oil and yet another with cutting oil for turning/milling etc. They all work well no matter what the weight of oil in them.
