Another source of good shims are feeler gauges. Dirt cheap and available every where.

Thread: Bench top band saw
01/10/2021 12:34:48

I have had a Cutmax 125 for the last 4 years. It is an excellent saw. Cuts perfectly straight & true. It has cut everything from wood to stainless with no problems. I keep 2 blades one for ferrous and one for non ferrous I managed to get a demo model at a show for less than £200. They are quite expensive but well worth the money. Keep meaning to do a vertical mod but have never got around to it.

Thread: Piracy in Sales Section.
29/09/2021 15:22:34

Looks like this may be another scam or Pirate in action. I have asked Webroot if this is genuine or not. By the look of the link :- webroot-safe.linkmyroku.com/ looks to be a home web server.  Section of text from website :-

We do not have any affiliations from Webroot and any other company related to Antivirus.

Thread: Making milling vise jaws
23/09/2021 09:27:23
Posted by Steve355 on 23/09/2021 06:07:07:

Hi all,

So my gauge plate should be arriving today, Would someone be kind enough to explain the basic process for making vise jaws from gauge plate for an idiot with a vise with no jaws.

thanks

Steve

Cut jaws to length/drill/countersink and fit to vice. Fit vise to mill table and the mill top and sides of jaws to suit. Make sure vise is parrallel to table with an indicator. Plenty of YT videos on the subject. Just do a search.

Thread: A question about motor
16/09/2021 19:25:58
Posted by Tonny Andre on 16/09/2021 18:25:05:

Yes I was thinking of buying a single phase motor. How reliable are these VFD? I dont have alot of trust in electronics and if it breaks down, I am not able to fix it.

I bought some cheap VFD's and they have been fautless for several years. Dont forget the motor needs to be dual voltage ie 230/415 wired Delta to work properly on a VFD

Thread: Another scammer in our "For Sales" section.
15/09/2021 09:07:06

Yet another scammer " How to activate MS Office" in the For Sale section. They are at it again.MS Office comes with its own activation system no need to buy one from another party. If a MOD can deal with this please.

I have also reported the scam to Microsoft so maybe they can get the website taken down.

Well just to end the story on a happy note.

Thanks to the forum - I met with Martin who was very helpful and I am now the proud owner of a Mk1 AUD. There is a known issue with the gearbox, but Martin was completely honest and we think it can be fixed. It was reflected in the price (and a bacon roll and tea was thrown in as well).

I am sure I will have questions when I get into restoration so "I'll be back"

Look up mrpete on Youtube. He had a series on rebuiling a SouthBend 9" gearbox which is almost identical to the Boxford one. It may be of help to you. Glad you found a Boxford to suit you they are excellent machines.

Beware the advert in "The For Sale" section for McaFee Antivirus. This is a scam and has been removed in the past. You can get the same program legally for much less money. Can a MOD please look at it again.

Thread: Disposal of swarf

I registered with my local metal scrap dealer. It was easy and free to do. As i save or collect all my metal scrap and take it in from family & friends I make a profit a couple of times a year when I weigh it in. Old motors, batteries, copper, brass & wire scrap is weighed seperately & adds to the value. They pay direct onto my Visa card or cheque if needed.

Thread: Whirlpool cooker

A source of replacement Whirlpool halogen elements for a hob would be most usefull.

As pointed out by Clive, Espares seem to be one of the best suppliers of cooker parts. I have used them several times for cooker & fridge spares and they never failed me.
