I thinned some Galvafroid last year for an outside job with Zylene from Crosbie Coatings. Took a lot of mixing by hand but it applied ok and has stood up to the weather fine and I have still not overcoated it. regards |

Many attempts at monorail, maglev etc have been proposed and failed worldwide including this one in what is now Cambridgeshire. The concrete pillars and track stood as far as I remember well into the 1980's and it is possible remnants still remain around Earith. regards

Thread: Wi Fi router |
15/07/2022 10:18:57 |
You can run a cat5 cable as described and use an old router in the shed as a wifi unit with a little setup change. Plenty of howto's online. I have an old BT hub6 in my loft to extend the wifi to the bedrooms. Works a treat. regards Oops Howi beat me too it. Edited By Oldiron on 15/07/2022 10:20:43 |

Look at Freeola.com And their linked getdotted.com to see if they suit your needs (good service and very helpful).
Edited By V8Eng on 15/07/2022 08:20:20 +1 for Freeola.com When I had my own website with them I never had a problem. Easy to set up etc. When I reliquished the website I retained all the associated emails for a small monthly fee. I only changed from Freeola when I had FTTP installed. regards |

I've actually wondered about buying a couple of MAX-T tools just as an experiment to see if they are any good, after all, 10 or 12 quid isn't going to break the bank. I'll have to mull it over tonight when trying to fall asleep - not always easy these days, and thinking about something like this is rather more useful than mentally reminiscing about events of 50 or 60 years ago. Peter G. Shaw Peter, it is worth buying one to have a look at. You can always return it for a refund if not as described. regards |

Fairly easy to make a cutter from HSS. Just copy the shape of the thread form from the original on to a piece of tool steel and make sure there is cutting clearance on end and both sides but leave the top flat. Then just turn the blank to size and plunge the cutter in till correct depth 8 TPI. David OP quotes 5 TPI regards |
Thread: Connecting battery charger fly leads |
12/07/2022 22:14:26 |
Posted by Dave Halford on 12/07/2022 20:30:12:
In some cases the battery is under one of the front seats so using the remote terminals under the bonnet would make sense. Stop start batteries use the more complicated charging system, but no one I can find says you can't connect direct, but you do need an Auto battery charger, >>>>> so the old Winfield charger needs to be binned Dont bin it as it is useful for anodizing/rust removal/testing stuff etc. The new types do not work for those uses. regards |
Thread: What Did you do Today 2022 |
12/07/2022 22:08:48 |
Did not do much in the way of practical work today as I felt a day off was needed. I did read through a pdf copy of Practical Mechanics dated October 1933. It was one of the best reads I have had for ages. Jam packed from cover to cover with things to do/make & experiment with. Lots of really neat adverts for all manner of things. I really enjoyed that and spent nearly all day reading it. I wish modern magazines could replicate the way these old ones were filled but alas I fear those days are gone. regards |

Thread: Electric plug identification |

When I lost my 12v lead to my cooler box I used a spare fig8 plug temporarily. I just touched the sides on the belt sander till it slid in the recess & marked one side so I knew which way round to plug it in. I used it a couple of times ok until the errant lead showed up from its hiding place. regards |

I would go for a layout similar to Issue No 13. Clean, clear & no clutter. Issue # & date at the top so easy to locate in a pile. The nicely sized "The Practical Hobby Magazine" banner shows who it is aimed at. No need for lots of little panels containing tiny script. Keep up the good work. regards |

Now what is the best glue for bonding the stone back to the steel wheel ? I would imagine that an epoxy glue would be the thing to use. BUT you would need to do some research as to which one would be best. It would depend on the wheel size/speed/pressure generated etc. Not a job I would fancy doing myself. regards
