Do you not think that some of the comments by people on Steves earlier posts were personal ?. They were not deleted as far as I can see. regards |
05/10/2022 12:46:51 |
As far as I could see there was nothing abusive about Steves comment. He mearly asked certain people not to comment as when they did it was usually negative, disparaging or rude. regards |
05/10/2022 10:37:30 |
Seems strange that the same group of people that pick on Steve have deleted part of his comment. Censorship at its best regards |
05/10/2022 09:45:19 |
I would not worry about a few rough comments Steve. It does not matter where, why or by whom it is made it will never be the correct way in some peoples eyes. You Tube and forums exist for the sole purpose of letting people moan about the way others work. Whether it be cleaning, painting, machining, woodworking, metal working, welding, spelling or grammar etc etc some smart alek always knows a better, quicker, safer or cheaper way to do it. regards |

Thread: Best reference book for a lathe novice |
25/09/2022 20:18:01 |
There are many books on lathe use and endless YT videos. But a good place to start is "Know your lathe" Here is a link to a copy for you. Know your lathe. There is also The Amatuers Lathe by L H Spary which goes into more detail. regards Edited By Oldiron on 25/09/2022 20:18:17 |

I have an old noname wood lathe made from folded sheet metal with internal braces. I use it very rarely but dont seem to get much vibration. Go for CI if you can though as it is supposedly better at damping than MS. As for cost it is entirely down to the size of your pockets. regards |

Thread: Small internal threading tool |
25/09/2022 10:26:28 |
Posted by DiogenesII on 25/09/2022 09:26:44:
Hi - a quick question. I need to cut a 10x1mm pitch internal thread so would like a 60* tool that will fit up an 8.5mm (-ish) hole. I've noted the little sets of pre-ground round-shank HSS for square holders, that come in sizes down to 6 or even 4mm. Does anyone have these & know what size holes they 'start' from? Hi. Is there a reason not to use a tap for the thread ? Just asking out of interest. regards |
Thread: Which lathe to purchase |

A close friend has recently died and his widow has asked me to sell all his tools including a Zyto (?) made by S Zyteck & Co approx 1920/30s which is in very good condition but I have no idea what sort of value to put on it. Is there anyone who would like to give me an estimate? I have tried posting a photo but every time it is upside down and cant rectify it. Best to start yor own thread on this subject. You will get more answers. BUT price depends on condition & features. A lot more info will be required eg swing/between centres length/change gears available or is it even able to cut threads/ motor size etc etc. regards Edited By Oldiron on 20/09/2022 19:24:59 |

When my wifes car broke down the AA came out and towed it to a garage as the fitter said he could not look for electronic faults on the roadside. A full AA check on a car costs £128 for AA members (£142 for non-members), regards |

Thread: Moving house (and workshop) |

Nor sure that I can give any real input on this. I suppose it will depend on how far you are moving. How attached are you to the machinery. Will the amount you get in sales cover the cost of replacement items and all that valuable "scrap". I am sure it will cost a lot more to replace than say move it from London to Glasgow. regards |

Thread: Repurposing an old WiFi Router |

I use a BT Hub5 in the loft as a repeater. Been working like that a few years now with no problems. It gives good coverage to all the upper floor. My cable router is on the ground floor and we have concrete floors between it and the upper floor. so a repeater is a must. regards |
