If it's that weight and just been delivered surely is on a pallet or has pallet holes in the bottom ? if it has why not use a pallet truck ? all my machinery is set up for pallet truck movement it's saved me no end of hassle especially when you can't make your mind up just how you want your workshop set up. or you keep having to swap around to fit new toys in !! you only need 4 inches in height to fit the truck under and away you go unless of course you have a bench top machine then you'll need a crane or something to lift with anyway. |

All depends upon what you burn and where you burn it There are some exclusions to smokeless zones also, for example I was allowed to demolish and burn an old wooden garage on site as it was riddled with woodworm !! It was deemed better than spreading the worm around by transporting it. |

I served my apprenticeship with an old guy who fixed my watch and lubed it with sardeen oil one dinner break. till works fine years later and never been touched since. not bad for a 65 year old who was swinging a 14lb hammer one minute and fixed my watch the next.
As for cleaning fluid we use a liquid in our ASNU petrol injector tester that has a built in ultrasonic cleaner (modern injectors use down to a single micron tolerance theses days) don't know what it is as its under their own label but must be good. |

I Have a small portable spark erroder for this sort of job, as above build a small dam around the job and fill with de-ionised water then away you go simple and effective.

Street light power circuits arn't good enough for charging EV's you'd have to rewire them all at great cost and disruption, plus they are still spaced out too far to safely run a charging cable to a vehicle. you'd get the no win no fee scum doing "did you trip over a power cable in the street claims" |

I'm not against Electric vehicles and am fully trained to the highest level available to repair these vehicles . I even run a Prius myself. My comments were aimed solely at the governments lack of thinking about a subject before jumping on a band wagon. They should be announcing new battery manufacturing and disposal plants, and the ensuing new jobs, keeping us at the forefront of the new technology. Instead of frightening anybody who is currently in a trade that will be severely effected by announcing cut off dates for their jobs. on one hand making themselves look good by improving the environment whilst abolishing incentives and increasing the taxes on EV's in the background with the other Edited By Antony Powell on 27/07/2017 09:08:33 |

Thought out - I think not.... Job losses petrol station staff + maintenance staff for pumps etc petrol tanker drivers + those who fill the tankers + those who maintain both vehicles and plants "oil rig" workers Garage staff (lower maintenance required) etc
There is only one battery plant in Europe - currently running a 100% capacity There is nowhere in Europe to dispose of old battery's - have to be sent to USA
and thats just for starters

I searched high and low for some training with no luck bit the bullet and traveled the 300 miles to go on an Axminster course (I've now done 3) all I can say is I found it excellent & thoroughly enjoyed it Bob Rolff couldn't have been a better / friendlier instructor I only heard one complaint - no phone reception in the workshop Highly recommended.

Several of my cameras have 30m extensions for both power and picture without issue, buy off the bay maplin's is far too expensive and use the proper plugs / extension leads they are waterproof enough, mine have been up for three years without issue. (you could put a dab of Vaseline on if you want).

Thread: What Lathe Sould I Buy? |
09/07/2017 12:39:53 |
Hi Malcolm It's a mine field !! Having just purchased a new lathe again ..... I bought from Warco and went through three before sending it back and buying from Axminster, two minor issues, DRO had one segment dimmer than the rest - changed immediately, misprint on the add said it included a live center but I was supplied with two dead a new live center was supplied without argument. I would advise as follows.... 1) See it and feel it before buying it (even if you don't know what you are doing, you can still learn from it ) go and turn handles and slide thing about the difference can be dramatic..... 2) Shop around as previously stated many similar machines are available from different sources at vastly different prices for basically the same machine. 3) Ensure you know the warranty you get in detail, in writing and up front, as these can vary from six months full + six months parts only to three years full from Axminster who is the only one to offer this long (as far as I know anyway) 4) Buy a machine with as many extras as possible you will need them all eventually anyway 5) The bigger the better your projects will grow in size (you may also need a small lathe to accommodate the little jobs) 6) Sit down and think hard on what you want to be able to do BEFORE spending any money 7) Attend a short course from the likes of Axminster they are excellent (Bob Rolff will answer many questions honestly and show you how to set up a new lathe correctly) and then decide what you want. 8) Don't forget as previously pointed out..... Space required...noise level......Access.....Power supply etc Tony Edited By Antony Powell on 09/07/2017 12:42:28 Edited By Antony Powell on 09/07/2017 12:49:42 Edited By Antony Powell on 09/07/2017 12:51:24 |
Thread: Feedback Sought - Beginner's Series |

Not everybody likes every article in any magazine and will usually just skip it and ignore it. I am sure like me there are many out there who aren't interested in pen making, steam loco's, or several other regular topics, Yet I don't complain I simply skip those articles and move onto something I am interested in Surely this isn't too difficult to do, and a mere two pages in any magazine won't cause that much of a problem to anybody. A site or magazine that doesn't cover the whole spectrum will soon die as all the oldies will also do eventually and where would that leave the magazine those up coming with similar interest with little or no experience won't subscribe to one with all the articles way over their heads Magazine's and web sites need to cater for the many not the few to survive !!
