Thread: myford leadscrew |

When I have tried to use the hand wheel on the end of the lead screw on my aged S7to move the cross slide with the half nuts engaged . it's always difficult to move because it turns the screwcutting gear box as well . Just been cleaning and oiling , and I cant see any way of disconnecting it . I never use it for that reason . Is this the normal situation or am I doing something wrong ? Just what is the use of that graduated hand wheel ? Regards Phil |

hello Jason yes its for a old Bluebird 45 engine , the needle valve . I have one for a pattern . I was told by an "expert" that it would be an AF , I could have a try on the lathe but sure to need a die to make a clean finish Thanks every one for information |
03/04/2019 12:12:31 |
I am having problems with a fine thread , the dia is 0.156 inch ie 5/32 The pitch fits on my metric gauge marked as 50 , which I assume is 0.5 mm pitch, but seems finer than that , too fine to count till I borrow grandsons microscope . The screw is an adjuster in a model aeroplane engine , any thoughts ? |

Thread: boiler blowdown |
08/01/2019 09:45:34 |
Thanks for the help , I have a working Tich with a blow down valve , but I have acquired a larger boiler that I would lie to experiment with . It doesn't have a BD valve . If I try to silver solder a bush in now is it likely to ruin the boiler ? |
07/01/2019 20:01:00 |
all the best for the new year , may your sheds be always dry . The plans for the Tich boiler don't show a blow down valve , some photos show them with some without . Is one needed or is it optional ,and could one be fitted to a boiler already made without damage to the integrity . Regards Phil

Thread: Myford ML7, or Colchester Bantam/Boxford model A easiest to use? |
04/12/2018 16:20:43 |
I have a Bantam and a Myford , The Bantam will do anything the Myford will do and take bigger pieces and I find the direct reading on the cross slide much easier to cope with than the Myford , Hardly ever use it these days , unless the Bantam is set up for a job , I did change the motor for a single phase one and made up a clutch by slackening the drive belt ,, it has worked well for 10 years regards Phil |

Thanks David , I will carry on with that set up then # I take it that the valve seat is bored straight through and not tapered ? regards Phil |
