John , I am sure you are right , now I have lined them up a different way , they must me water gauge fittings . Missing the unions for the glass glands and missing the valve needle for he drain . They both have steam shut off valves . . They seem a bit complicated though . They might be OK for a small boiler

I was told these are injectors , never having seen an injector I don't know

In the same box were these bits , found out the water gauge is a very expensive part ! I take it the others are injectors ?

Oh , I see now !!!! Its not finished , No wonder it had me foxed Would this be a home made fitting then ? , Thanks everyone ( again !!)

hello , sounds about right , but where does the water / steam exit ?

can anyone please tell me what this is for ? it came with a box of boiler parts . Some sort of valve ? But with no outlet , and should there be a ball to seat on the conical part ?

I did read somewhere that men used to pee on parts before pressing them together seems to encourage rusting !

I have been making up a ST governor for a ST beam engine . The spring like belt supplied is far too long , Has anyone else found this ? or what else can be used as a belt ?

not just me then !! I will make up a new bolt and I have a small thrust bearing to try , I will see how a longer arm works out The scissor jack holds the table up but have been getting some sideways movement , when clamped

Ian points out that there is a loose collar that clamps on the column. There is just a through bolt on mine , not original just a hex head that locates on the one side and a nut on the other . Is there somthing missing ? I have to really tighten the nut hard to get it to hold and a bit frightened of breaking the casting

I have a Fobco drill . The table won't clamp up securely , I have a scissor jack under it . I notice that the split in the rear if the clamp doesn't go right to the bottom or the casting . If I cut through this last bit will it clamp better or could it be a disaster . Anyone had similar problem ?

I was interested in the chat about Manchester museum . I few of us were planning a trip there but wondering if it's worth it . Has anyone been to the Birmingham science museum lately ? I went round there about 30 years ago I found it well worth the trip . Is this still the case , or has this one dummed down as well ?

Just taken the motor off my S7 , i agree , it's a nightmare job if you cant get round the back . When refitting it , is it easier to take the the mounting plate off and fir the motor to if rather than trying to fit the bolts in while holding up the motor etc . I need 3 foot long very flexable arms . or move the lathe forward off the riser blocks , which i dont want to do !! has any one any tips for refitting . Motor burned out so going high tech Newton Tessa Squander the kids inheritance

I made a good one in steel this morning , holding it in a collet and putting a piece of 1/8 rod up it before threading , as suggested , I might try a brass one using that system and a new die , Thanks for the support , good to know that I am not the only one that has problems !!!

I made 2 more yesterday in steel , tried boring first and tried threading first , Both ended up being bent , I did what I normally do when things arnt working , which is to abandon it for the day, I will try again today , by holding in a collet in case its a problem with the chuck Seems to go wrong when wining the die off , new ish HHS die , See how it goes today !!

I am making a governor for a ST engine . the part calls for a 3/16 brass tube 2 inches long , bored 1/8 and threaded 1 inch at 40 tpi . I have tried 3 times , but each time it distorts under its own weight I tried boring first , tried threading first tried inching it out ot the chuck . I don't have a fixed steady , Theading with a tailstock die holder . I am going to try in steel tomorrow , but it must be doable , where am I going wrong ?
