Sykes Pickavant must be made with legs. Can't remember who borrowed it but not seen for years. I tend to take my cylinder heads to a mate now, he has diamond coated cutters and it only takas a few seconds per seat.

Plus 1 for trying Andmar. Andmar rebuilt a 1310 for me when I was managing a toolroom but it was maybe 20 or more years ago.

Taylor Jones where the go to for non standard reamers when I was working.

Slop/backlash on most lathe carriage hand wheels is not unusual. As apprentices we where told to drag our hand on the carriage wheel to stop the lash affecting the finish on final cuts.

I know nothing about your model of lathe but an approximate location my help, there my be a forum member close by.

When the metric system was introduced to engineering the first thing we would do is sit and convert the drawing sizes to imperial. Not because we could not think in metric terms but to suit the imperial measuring equipment we had. I am 73 and to this day prefer to use an imperial depth micrometer to a metric one whereas other metric measurement equipment does not bother me and all my machines are metric.

I am not a model maker but do plenty of machining playing around with old motorcycles.

I keep a good stock of EN16T for wheel spindles and especially girder fork spindles. Pre Covid a local steel stockist would let me rummage around in the short bar length rack for the bigger diameters but up to 5/8" I buy the 3 metre length. The last time I bought some 1/2" diameter EN16T the 3 metre length was sub £15. No compromise on safety critical items.

Welcome along Colin, as stated earlier a vast amount of knowledge on this site. I spent 50 years as a toolmaker and can still learn from folk on here. Do a search on this site re Chipmaster and VFD, my memory tells me it is not straight forward with the original motor but doable.
