I've got a Britool torque wrench same style 1970's vintage, lost the ball bearing many years ago, anyone know what size ball bearing? I thought it may have been around 1/4"

Anyone mentioned if the tool is parting off above centre? That would also break off the final pip. Could also the the reason for the tool deflecting and cutting an arc and not straight.

Thread: Tool suppliers in Oxford and Banbury ? |

Go out of Oxford on the A40 and take the A418 to Aylesbury then Aston Clinton to Dunstable. Chronos Ltd. southfields Road, Dunstable. I would guess about an hour, used to work in Aylesbury and could get their in about 25 minutes, that't about halfway to Dunstable.

Thread: Smart and brown model 'L' lathe- opinions, please? |

I had four of these all bought from Bracehand in Bigglewade, as reconditioned I think about £6000 each then. At the price you mentioned, I'd buy it if only to have set up for a particular job when needed or as a spare when other machines are tooled up for other jobs. One of mine have type 21 collets that go larger than the smaller collet machines, Used to buy collects from Crawford in Witney but they went some years ago.

Thread: Soba Tapping Attachment Help |
17/05/2015 22:57:45 |
Mine all turn in the normal clockwise direction looking down the tap into the hole, like a drill. I've not used mine on a left hand tap, but maybe the mechanism is adjustable to set it to run in reverse for left handed taps. Not sure what make mine are, will have to check, one I think is an old archer tapping head. Does yours let you pull the tap down so you can twist it to stay in that down position? I think I may have the instruction card in the boxes for a couple of them will check tomorrow

You might need more "throw" on the mecanism to get it to go into reverse. I have varous tapping heads and the tap needs to feed out far enough to click into reverse, of you don't wind the handle up fast enough it can drop put of reverse and knock. I do a lot of blind holes, so first pull the tap down and twist the collet to hold it down on the cam to lock it in the freewheel position, that way it does no bottom out and break the tap if you set the depth in that position, then when it freewheels and you wind the quill back up it goes into reverse on the tapping gearing in the head.

Thanks Tim, have a few old handlebars around here, as you say a bit on the thick side. Trying to find a bit of 7/8" x 20g tube, Have an old mop handle, but the wall is too thin, and outside diameter a bit of a loose fit. The outside diameter is 7/8" (.875" ) and the lead screw is .750" With wall of .036" have a clearance of .053" so have .0265" clearance around the leadscrew. Been searching to see if it matches a Reynolds size but have not found anything yet. Edited By JasonB on 12/05/2015 19:06:26 |

Saddle off the Myford, so hoping to get a piece of tube that can be cut to size and cleaned up with a bit of fine emery paper and made to fit. Headstock is on so can spin the chuck, but cannot turn anything from the toolpost. Looking at the old part the bore looks smooth, may be a weld mark so could be welded tubing, so I'm hoping that it was fabricated with off the shelf tubing.

Hi, I have almost finished putting the Apron back together on my Myford 254. Where the lead screw goes through the apron there is a tube that it runs through that is a push fit on the apron housing. It's 7/8" outside diameter, with a wall of .036" It does not appear in the Myford parts list for the apron. The old part has perforated and lets the oil out. Thanks.

Posted by Les Jones 1 on 01/03/2015 10:26:42: No 25.4mm = 1.000" Les. You are correct I was having a bad day. It should have been 25.4 in original post not 24.4 Edited By Lionel Titchener on 01/03/2015 20:20:24 |

Yes 25.4mm is .1000" It was not a conversion, none of the dual measurement were done as a conversion, I just changed the vernier from imperial to metric to check measurements in both. I thought maybe 25.4mm may have been used as outside diameter for a Module Gear, and 0.998" for a DP Gear. John Stevenson put me right telling me to ignore the 0.998" and make it 1000" No, I did not read your post as picking on me, been around enough forums not to worry what is said in posts. Lionel |
