Hello to all I have just brought a hobbymat mill and am looking for any information on maintaining it. I have looked in the normal internet places and found very little. I have the owners manual and the sales brochure but they give no help as to things such as headstock greasing and how to do it. The mill runs well and all the speed work Ok but i'm not sure when they were last lubed. any information would be a great help |

Thread: Small chrome plate job |
13/03/2017 18:14:15 |
Hi Peter I would forget Chrome and go for Nickel. I do a lot of watch cases that everyone assumes are Chrome plated. In fact in the last 10 years only 2 have been. If you want the lighter colour of Chrome then go for replica Chrome which is nickel with lots of cobalt mixed in. There are kit on line. not to expensive and very good |

Thread: Banding on turned work |
05/01/2017 17:35:21 |
If you take a look at Lathejacks album Chinese torture he had the same problem and fixed it with a modified worm bracket . I have the same thing happening on my Warco 918 and am in the process of modifying the worm bracket with 2 thin ball bearings. There are several design on the file section on the 9x20 Yahoo forum. The banding I get is quite regular and happens at all speeds and feeds infact I can hear the motor sound change tone when the band appears on the turned surface |
Thread: Safety and superglue chucks |
07/12/2016 19:01:16 |
I use superglue all the time to hold small Silver and Gold bezels on boxwood chucks and it works fine. The important thing for me to remember is not to let the part get to hot I normally have a damp rag to hand and cool the part every minute or so. Take small cuts and go slow. To remove the part a little heat and a gentle prize with a sharp knife should lift the piece of.

Thread: Silver soldering question |
03/12/2016 17:51:14 |
Hi Phil Rouge powder is obtainable from Cousins who sell watch parts and tool,Cooksons gold. and H S Walsh in hatton garden. It realy comes into is own when soldering next to an already soldered joint. Paint it on and then warm the job but be careful when you put on any flux if the Rouge mixes into the flux your solder won't flow. I bought a 120 gram jar about 10 years ago and I'm not even 1/4 of the way through. Item no p8984 from cousinsuk.com |

A trick I use all the time to stop silver and gold solder running where you don't want it is to paint the area with rouge powder mixed with a little water into a paste. Its also good at stopping an already soldered joint from coming undone or the solder flowing out of an already soldered joint |

Hi. not really sure that they are limitations. The fixed angle and course Diamond grinding stone where mentioned. How do you find the quality of cut and has the set geometry ever affected your work John? |
13/11/2016 16:50:17 |
Hi All thanks for the comments. I just read some reviews on Amazon and the machine seems to come out with favourable reviews over all. I will hold fire on it for the moment as there are a few limitations. But if I do get one I will put up own review here after all Christmas is on the way again. |

Thanks clogs. I have messed up to many drills in the past and am looking for a simple but accurate and not to expensive machine. It was the split point facility that caught my eye as my drilled holes always seem to wander of however careful I am |
13/11/2016 13:38:17 |
Hi all Do's anyone have any experience of a Sealey drill sharpener model SMS2008 they are up on Febay at around £45. Youtube review shows one doing split point sharpening. But are they any good ? I hope someone here can help |

Thread: Diprofile machine |
12/11/2016 17:55:48 |
Hi I have four diprofil hand pieces. they are a smaller version and fit my pendent motor flexible shaft. Three have a set filing stroke length 0.5mm 1mm and 1.5mm the other has an adjustable side to side sweeping action. All came from Febay at less than £40 each. I have found they work best for me with ceramic stones and small Diamond files run at about 10,000 rpm |
