Hello all

I have just started to rebuild the head stock of my new old Ebay Boley & Leinen model 83 lathe. The bearings are shot and grumbling . They appear to be oil lubricated as there is a wicking system inside the head casting. So my questions are should I fit sealed bearings or the unshielded type as original. more important perhaps is what type of oil to use.

thanks in advance

It's probably available in bulk, at a better price, but this looks a reasonably safe bet: **LINK**

As for the bearings; I would go for the original style in the best available quality.

... Given its pedigree, one would hope that the spindle was appropriately designed and engineered.
