I have a VMB which has a similar belt arrangement except that the intermediate pulley, instead of floating, was fixed on a sliding plate that had to be loosened, adjusted, then tightened when you changed belt ratios on the front, a stupid design! Curious - I have a VMB bought direct from Myford in 1998, and it has a floating intermediate pulley. |
Thread: Refurbishing my bench |

I use a bench I made nearly 50 years ago, to a design in a book called "The Complete Home Carpenter" . It has 2 top layers, the upper one of which is 3/4" chipboard, meant to be replaceable. I've replaced it three times in 50 years, so it lasts pretty well. If I'm going to be doing anything oily I cover it with a sheet of oil-tempered hardboard with a softwood lip around the bottom, which fits around the bench and holds it in place. |

AFAIK, for a smart-meter to work you need a reliable mobile phone signal.

Thanks Neil. Does anyone happen to know how thick a layer of superglue is ? (or solder ?) Super glue and 620 can be as thin as 0.01mm, and if the surfaces are flat enough, then down to 0.005mm Thanks. |

If there are bolts through the pedestal base to hold it down you don't need to attach the shim Doh ! And thanks for all the other suggested solutions folks, much appreciated. |

Not an isolated problem as I have just received my print copy and that has the same problem, no pages 195-202 and 219-226 but 2 lots of pages 203-210 and 211-218. I had the same - I rang Mortons and they're going to send me a replacement.

OK, this is weird. I've been looking at mills for sale and I just took a telephone call from ARC Eurotrade asking for SWMBO by name. SWMBO would not know a mill from lathe if her life depended on it. We do have an anniversary coming up though. Robert G8RPI. Have you got a birthday coming up ? |

My wife applied for a new license (on line) on Wednesday evening. The new license arrived this morning. So the turn around was only two working days. Excellent service from DVLA. Andrew.
Applied February still no licence. They couldn't organise a party in Downing Street Having had a medical suspension I re-applied for a licence last October. The only response so far was a letter in May thanking me for my 'recent' application, and asking me to re-do all the forms that I'd sent them with the original application. Useless b**t***s ! Just tell them "You are scammers, you know it and so do I". There is usually a prompt Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I usually ask them "Does your mother know what you do for a living ?!". This often gets a gratifyingly vituperative reaction from those calling from the far-east... |

A friend was a service engineer for ICL, he described a service call to install a memory expansion, he moved the link to enable the memory that was installed as standard but not enabled. The customer paid much more than the cost of a service call. Mike Years ago I used to look after some Honeywell mini-computers for a software developer. You could buy an upgrade to double the CPU speed, requiring an engineer visit. After a few upgrades I got to know the engineer quite well, and he showed me the single motherboard jumper that had to be removed to perform the upgrade... |

Found it Bob ,Go to settings then my account its at the top of page change selection and hit update preferences. Thanks. Still not working though - when I go to 'Account Settings' the only relevant setting would appear to be 'Thread Start Page', which has two options 'Default to first' and 'Default to last' - there's no 'latest posts' option anywhere. |

when What did you do today 2022 is selected why doesn't the current page load? You need to be logged in and set ';latest posts' in your preferences. Neil Where do I find 'Preferences' ? I've found 'Settings' OK, but it's not there. |
Thread: For all you Myford owners |

Posted by Neil Wyatt on 28/06/2022 18:42:15:The Myford VMB (mill) and Mystro MK2 (a wood lathe) were made in Taiwan.
Neil I bought a VMB direct from Myford in the 90's, having visited the factory. I was told by the guy selling it that what came from Taiwan was used pretty much as just a set of castings. They were completely stripped down, all the supplied electrics thrown away, casting-sand cleaned out, mating surfaces corrected as required, some bearings replaced, and then rebuilt with all-new electrics. They may also have replaced the motor, but I can't swear to that as it was some time ago. Certainly mine hasn't given me any trouble since I bought it. |

If you don't like hospital parking charges, come to Wales, we've had free hospital parking since 2018. The amount of space available varies from hospital to hospital, but you can usually find an empty slot. The best 'hospital parking' story I know of was in an English hospital. They had a big rebuilding program, and put a helicopter landing pad on the roof of the new A&E, thereby freeing up a lot of ground-level space for parking. By the time they'd finished the rebuild, they'd bought a new helicopter. The new one was too heavy for the rooftop-pad (which had been designed without any weight allowance for a replacement copter), so they had to take the parking spaces back for a ground-level landing-pad. As far as I'm aware no administrator, architect or building company was ever penalised for not allowing any slack for possible replacements in the design phase... |

If your ceiling is high enough to be able to pull the drawbar straight out the top then you're luckier than me!. Only way is to tilt the head right, do whatever with the drawbar, tilt it back and align it. Pain in the neck which I haven't had to do for about 125 years luckily.
I had a similar problem with my Myford VM-B drawbar, which hit the ceiling of my workshop. It was in a two-storey structure with a bedroom above. I cut a square hole in the workshop ceiling plasterboard, glued in a short piece of square drainpipe abutting the floorboard above, and cleaned out the insulation material in the gap. This gave me room to remove the drawbar with about 1/2" to spare. |
