That hospital bed is a touch of genius Mark yes

I hope the patient makes a full recovery.

I had to take about 20 of them to the dump, I asked every one I could think of if they wanted one, now takers.

All the electric work perfectly.

Inside the cabinet amongst the swarf, rust, cobwebs and dirt., I found these goodies.
As well as the spare parts manual with the inspection certificate inside it.

My Hercus 9 Restoration has started, I am hoping any Hercus or Southbend owners will be able to help me.

Finally got a nice cool day for a change, only 41°C.

So I thought I would start cleaning up my Hercus 9 and try and keep the missus happy.

I saw this lathe advertise in Alice Springs in a recycling yard ( Alice is the closest town 500 Km away) in March last year, I only wanted the stand for my Hercus 260, but when I picked it up I found out it was an Hercus ARL.

When I bought her home, I had to dismantle her to get her off the trailer and stacked the parts on an obsolete hospital bed, 6 month later I transferred to a different department at work so bought home my bench that I originally took there because it was too big for my shed.

For some reason the missus is keeps whinging about 2 lathes, a hospital bed and a bench on the back veranda, strange woman.

Thread: Nut & Bolt Sizes.
13/03/2017 09:35:01

Thanks for your replies,

At the moment my interests are General 'fixit' with a preference to metric, when I get a bit more practice I want to start making model engines etc.

Ian that is a perfect description, If I need 4 bolts, I will only find 2 nuts and the washers will be either too big or to large.

Very nicely restored car Russell.

What are the most common Nut & Bolt sizes in both metric and imperial?
I have been trying to sort out my lifetime collection of Nut & Bolts, about 6 x 4 Lts container full, I keep finding these strange sizes, for me any way, like 9.5 mm, 6.75 mm, etc that will not match up with any of my thread gauges.frown
Thread: My New Lathe.

Here you go.

She is an Imperial model built in 1980 as for as I have been able to find out,

The owners manual and parts manual are both printed in 1980 as well.

Call me patriotic but I have been after one of these lathes for years, they were build about approx 45 mins or so from my home town.

Thread: Is It Hard To Remove The Mill Column?
17/02/2017 10:29:06

After the success in removing the the push button oiler on my lathe, I thought I would replace the one on the base of my mill, about the centre of the column.

This one never had a ball in it from new, I kept it covered with a small block of wood.

I managed to get it out but I am unable to press the new one in as it is under a 45° recess on the column.

Would it be feasible to undo the bolts attaching the column and move it back a couple of cm , press it in and reassemble it?

It part No 107 in the parts diagram in the following link.

Can take a pic tomorrow if needed.

Thanks for the feedback.

What is Camelia oil made from ? I live in Australia and shipment from ARC would be too expensivs. Would like to fine a similar product from a local supplier.

Paul.

I bought some from Carbatec, by memory it was about $30.00 for about 240 mls.

I am going to a washing machine pump, seen some good set ups on an Aussie forum.

Thread: Push Button oiler ball Stuck!

Here is the culprit, some reason it had a double spring it was the one on the left I could see.

Good as new.

Thank you every one for all you help and advice.

Success at last.

Remove the shear pin on head stock end of the lead screw,
undo and remove lead screw bush block on tail stock end.
Loosen the two tension cup-head screws, undo the two big cup-head screws at the front of the carriage cones of easy as pie.

Note the bonus finger prints, someone with smaller fingers than me, quick scrub with kero wouldn't budge then.

The two cup-head screws that hold the apron on.
I will get some new ones next time I go down the street.

Here is the link if any one needs it.
