Thread: HSS for grinding |

I only ever use hss tooling, £2.80 would buy a 3" hss blank which would last a lot longer than tips will do, grinding is not complicated and is satisfying to do. It is possible to get hung up on lots of different angles for this or that I only use about 3 angles for all my tools Mick |
Thread: Electric Drill-drivers with dead batteries |

I used some old alarm 12 volt batteries to power 3 battery drills lasted ages then when they were played out used an old car battery, keep it on a trickle charger and bobs yer uncle, lugging a battery around no worse than using a 110 volt transformer, incidentally there are useful little gearboxes in the drills-- waste nothing Mick |

I amsure people find this forum informative, I have decided it is not for me for a number of reasons, eg if you ain' t part of the hardcore posters generally any input it generally ignored, there are a few inspector meticulous's around, not to mention people whose production rate exceeds anything a mere mortal can achieve, i always end up feeling quite inadequate and my thanks to those that have helped but I shall now retreat into my workshop and bumble on Mick h |

No with respect lets not move this subject slightly lets work from the position that the authorities just tak e the p'' ss and walk all over us, my sevice career of 25 years ended up with me in an alcohol unit cus I couldn't cope that don' t make me a bad person I just couldn't cope I am a regular human being but I am fed up with my apparent betters riding roughshot over me and the rank and file of this country and I am going to say it " Release Royal Marine A" Mick h |
17/12/2016 12:25:14 |
What annoys me is I have not given my permission to use data that belongs to me to anyone and yet by foul means they take my personal i fo and use it to make money for themselves, I am fed up with these people who think they can do anything they please, smacks of the 3rd reich, and yes I as an x serviceman who done my job in Malaya and the Falklands and a short trip to Northern Ireland and these people send the plebs like me to further their ambitions while tbey sit on their arses and order their next drink and work out how to prosecute people fo clearing their s$'t up IT maybe unacceptable on this forum but I am angry about all this and I shall have my say Mick h take to the steets |

Thread: What Did You Do Today (2016) |

Er well yesterday actually, I have about 3 million carbon steel lathe tools inherited from my Gramps which have lain unused since 1982 so sorted about a dozen useful looking ones out which will get sharpened and tried out. I usually use hss tools as personally I do not get on with insert and carbide tooling, I understand that carbon steel gives a good finish but needs a bit more care when using them, I have sharpened and tried a couple of boring tools and am pleasd with the results, I am not knocking insert and carbide stuff but I do like the old ways of doing stuff and the time taken in grinding tools is well spent Mick |
Thread: Odd face mill |

I'll second the fly cutter use, I have had a set of three in my w/shop for years, I was grinding up some hss lathe tools recently and sharpened a 1/4 " hss bit for the fly cutter, when tried on milling m/c a 5 thou cut across an 1 1/2" lump of bms left a smooth finish, tried a 10 thou cut and again left a beautiful finish, why have I not used these before!! I will sharpen the others up, I have seen a f/cutter made from a chuck backplate for big areas

Thread: Which of these 2 vices for milling? |
10/11/2016 20:32:59 |
It is, one of my vices is from RDG ( black) and the other one is from ARC ( blue) the arc one does open farther though, I am thinking of getting ARC's 80 mm vice Mick |
10/11/2016 17:53:11 |
I use 100mm vices on my Warco WM14 mill all the time and have not had a problem to date, I do like the look of the 80mm one though Mick |

Hi chaps, Just an update-- emailed Sky last thursday just had a phone call from a very nice bloke from Sky who has cancelled our account with immediate effect an as we pay month in advance we also have £59 rebate, I am gobsmacked was expecting to have to argue our case but quite the opposite no hassle -- result Mick |

Freesat is an option although there is a cost to get the box, basically I have enough of sky and just want it gone, could get a 2nd hand box with no subscription but seems that sky block free to air channels that should be on freeview but as I said freeview isn't very good here, I do like the yesterday channel not on freeview and not on sky with no subscription but can get it on my tablet, anyway have just took sky box out and emailed sky and now wait for a phone call no doubt Mick |
