Thread: Lathe chuck not true. |

First make sure chuck backplate threads and spindle register are clean a bit of swarf can throw the chuck out, also scroll and the jaws should all be clean, people do regrind the jaws with a toolpost grinder to true them up, personally I nearly always use a 4 jaw independant chuck and dial in the work to run true Mick |

I have a £10 pay as you go mobile bought years ago and I use it for emergency calls if needed when we are out, my missus has a tablet as do I, no facebook, twitter etc for me and no banking online, tablet mainly used for political sites this forum and occasional purchases, we have a small smart tv for catch-ups, plenty of good stuff on internet as long as you keep clear of the bad stuff, we are both in our mid seventies and enjoy what we have Mick |

Jon ....you really know how to enjoy yourself Dismantled pallet ( serious timber) my mains drill's left hand mode wouldn't work, try my 110volt drill, can't find the transformer, ok yankee screwdriver bloody hard work then lost the only bit that fitted, in desperation borrowed a battery drill from next door, job done, gonna have to convince the wife to treat me to a battery drill. The pallet brought my boxford shaper home so worth saving Mick |

None of my workshops are heated, I usually spend the mornings in the workshop till dinner, well most mornings, and a snooze after dinner and I try to get an hour or so in the early evening, course being retired helps, if its cold I wrap up, mind you it is suprising that sometimes I don't appear to achieve as much as I thought but nibble away at things works for me Mick |
Thread: Tooling to buy with Warco WM250 and WM16? |
04/02/2018 09:40:16 |
Hi Ross, Height has only been an occasional problem, I mainly use a 4" milling vice with the swivel base removed, I bought a 6" rotary table which can be a problem heightwise especially with a chuck fitted, perhaps a 4"table would have been better. On reflection the WM 16/18 would give more capacity but money was a problem. On the x axis the longer table on the larger machines would be be better the 14 will barely give 8"approx,the y axis has been okay so far. The rubber way protector lasted about 5 minutes and the face shield became fuzzed up quite quickly and i removed it opting for safety glasses instead. Accessories I have bought are clamping set, er32 collet set, dro, edge finders and spring loaded tapping thingys. All in all it has done all I have needed and I am well pleased with it, I also have an old Adcock & Shipley horizontal mill for heavier work. I would definitly recommend the mills go for the largest you can afford Regards  Mick   |

For the mill if not already fitted a digital read out for at least the x& y axis is a good fit, I have the wm14 and bought my dro from warco, best move I did Mick |

The A's are appearing again,sorry Mick |

One would presume that any bought product would be supplied with the correct size cable fitted,at least the wattage is a number that most people can understand and calculate the appropriate fuse for it or at least attempt to fit a fuse, cable size probably doesn't mean much to the average Joe, Mick  |
28/01/2018 12:27:05 |
I have understood that 250 watts would be covered by a 1amp fuse, so if item was rated 750 watts a 3 amp fuse would cover it, in practice I would fit the next higher fuse ie. a 5 amp fuse, am I incorrect in thinking this ? Mick |

Changes in temperature of plug ? Warm in use cooler when turned off can cause loosening of fixings Mick |
Thread: Tail stock die holder. |
27/01/2018 08:21:17 |
Sorry done double post again, didn't mean to honest  Mick Edited By Mick Henshall on 27/01/2018 08:21:34 |

My lathe has only changewheel options for screwcutting and power feed to crosslide so I find a die holder pretty useful, if I had a gearbox for screwcutting I would probably use it, but the die saves time, generally I use power feed only for quick removal of stock preferring hand feed Mick |
