Thread: Pneumatic tube fitting
23/05/2023 20:01:09

The items in the photo in Milly S posting could be Reinforcing Sleeves which are inserted in flexible tubing (Nylon, Poly and other semi rigid types) to facilitate the use with compression fittings used on pneumatic systems. One US manufacturer (Milton Industries) still list them.

Thread: Jeweller's Rouge
28/02/2023 09:58:02

A recent troll through the forum posts brought up the issue of grinding/polishing paste. One product that might be considered is Jeweller's rouge which is available in many grades and importantly in small quantities. Hope this kernel of info is of help.

Thread: Tappet adjusters
20/02/2023 15:47:01

In a recent thread Andrew Tinsley was enquiring as to how he might put a ball end on a screw. Can I respectfully suggest that he finds a ball bearing of the correct diameter and drills a hole in it. The end of the screw can be turned down to fit the drilled hole and retained with epoxy since the joint will be in compression. I have used this method often as it does save all of the time that would be expended in making a form tool, turning, polishing etc. etc.

Thread: Caliper repair
20/02/2023 15:23:28

Attached is a photo of a Dial Caliper that was given to me some time ago minus the lens and with a very dirty face as a result of having been used without a lens. Careful cleaning made it usable (further cleaning threatened to remove surface) before a search for a lens started. Availability, cost the have it fitted etc prompted me to make one. A piece of material clamped between two spoons and immersed in hot water and allowed to cool gave me the right curvature the difficult part was chamfering the edge.dial caliper.jpg

Thread: QC Toolpost

qct 2.jpgA number of questions have appeared re suitable quick change tool post and I thought you might like to see mine. One replaces the OEM tool post and the other is used when the top slide is off. All of the tool holders fit both units and the set up has functioned quite satisfactorily. The ball ended lever is only for use with the OEM post. I can not take credit for originality as I seem to recall seeing a design somewhere .qct 1.jpg

brass hammer 1.jpgThe attached photos are of a Brass Hammer that I was given many years ago. It never got used because it was well packaged and so shiny that I never felt like putting a mark on it and it was a long time before I discovered that the end could be removed to reveal two small screwdrivers which have seen more use than the Hammer.brass hammer 01.jpg

Thread: Spring collets
10/10/2022 17:02:15

Reference is made to Craig’s enquiry re the spring collets. I have a set (holder and collets) with similar dimensions to Craig’s which were purchased from Clarke many years ago. I did try to purchase a few imperial sized collets and did a lot of searching before a colleague on the other side of the pond identified the type as Q24-16/MS3. Unable to source from the UK so will probably have to solicit some help from abroad. The part number I have on file for the set is 7610323. Hope this is of some help.

Twelve years later and still functioning. However I must ask /plead with members NOT to use compressed air for blowing down it is a dangerous practice.

air receiver rev.jpgAttached to my last posting was a picture of my compressor albeit on its side. Hopefully new shot will show it right side up. The posting should have also included a photo of the air receiver put together at the same time. Quite portable so has been invaluable for group meetings where power was not available to run a compressor. Sitting on the shelf behind the receiver is a beam engine (sure the eagle eyed will have already seen it) and I will post some photos of this soon.air comp rev.jpg

meet 045.jpgTwo more photos of items/projects made along the way. One of the little compressor put together for powering my models and yes it was degassed at an approved site. Most of the connections are "push in fittings" to allow me to reconfigure easily. I really need a desiccant dryer for use with the air brush. The weather shield over the lock was fitted to save the fumble with a cold wet lock. Not a good start with a session in the shop. I used polycarbonate which had the added benefit of seeing whether it was locked.shop air 2.jpg

Thread: Oscillator
06/11/2021 12:23:32

When I joined the forum it was my intention to post a few photos every week of items, parts models that were refurbished or made as the shop progressed. Unfortunately other matters got in the way but here I am again with the first little oscillating engine (prior to the final fettle/polish). Runs well on low pressure air. Will try to get off a photo of the compressor used as it has given good service considering it was designed for another use.

Hello Jason thanks for the prompt response. Todays post went off without a hitch so probably my fault.

I am using a laptop with Windows 10 OS and can adjust the line spacing when I use Word, Publisher etc. but

unable to adjust spacing here.

28/10/2021 19:55:51

I have recently sent off two posts including photos which have not appeared

on the forum. Would somebody advise whether this is because they were not

fit to be published or has my machine malfunctioned.

As you will note I am still unable to get a single spacing in text and assistance

with this would be appreciated.

sylv april 16 2012 014.jpgsylv april 16 2012 015.jpgAn early addition to the workshop was this vice which was dismantled, cleaned,

lubricated and painted. Has given years of faithful service.

After the addition of soft jaws, angle plates etc it is now more of a clamping

Some time ago I introduced myself and stated that I would post some photos. Then the dilemma which photo.

Well how about the the beginning when I set up the last w/shop and looked around for a project to keep me

occupied until machines were up and running. Quite an interesting project which kept me occupied for a few

weeks.

Hi All,

Have been trying to load some photos to my album for attaching to a thread

but they are not appearing in the album after I transfer.

Perhaps some kind soul will tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thread: New Member

Hello All,

Thought it was time I joined the forum and share a few photos of

projects in progress or completed. But first a few pertinent details.

I live in Cheadle, Staffs.Moorlands and have a modest collection of

machines ie. Mini Lathe, Mill, Bench Drill etc. and belong to an active

group of modellers who meet twice a month.

Now to figure out how to attach photos which will be of interest to you. Since

there are so many will keep postings to two or three photos twice a week.
