some of the stock supplied is only just slightly larger than the part to be made, Gary
I have just noticed this.! On the James Coombes there are 2 plates. The supplied stock is slightly smaller than the specified size on the drawing before I even start to square them up. These are not critical parts so long as they are both the same. But that is not the point now is it.??? - The parts and their placement that go onto these plates however are critical. Anyway. I have squared them up and this gave me a good excuse to have a play with the new mill and its associated sundries I have purchased. Bad news is I have come to the conclusion I need to buy a height guage.

not bits for the Mclaren F1 team!! Regards Martin.
They have not done too well these last few years. Perhaps this is their problem.

. This was my solution to securing the base cabinet of my lathe. Obviously I made 4 of these. 100 x 100 x 12 steel plate was drilled in the center and tapped to 12mm. The length of 12mm threaded rod was locktighted into the base and additionally secured with a half height lock nut. This is then secured down to the floor through 2 extra holes in the plate. The height is then adjusted up or pulled down via 2 more nuts either side of the base mounting point. When level nip everything up both sides of the cabinet feet and recheck level. "Rinse and repeat" !!! Nick |

. Looks to me as if you have made a cracking job of that both cosmetically and engineering wise. Nice slow running capabilities for such a small engine.

. Cleaned down the lathe and mill of oil for arrival next week of castings. So hopefully I will just end up with a grey-black mess everywhere and not a sludgey gooey grey-black mess everywhere.!

Not so.! I would imagine / Don't drink beer for a month and stretch your budget a little bit for (perhaps) **LINK** I predict that there will be many contributors to this thread for the best place to spend sub 1K on a suitable metric machine for your needs.

But what about the bees? .
They have their own set of problems in dealing with Winnie. They would engineer a bear trap but are struggling with the Chinglese manuals for the lathe, mill and welder they bought to construct it.

I am thinking you may be better off with an old Myford for such.
