I have a Mk2 1958 S7. Did a recondition a couple of years ago. Still have a few bits to do and it missed out o a repaint as we were getting ready to move. Ahave been too busy after the the move to do much.

I had the bed reground. The hardest issue was finding a surface grinder long enough. ground the bed top and tehn converted the saddle to a wide bed. Also fitted taper roller bearings instead of the Angular Contact bearings. If you do the taper roller bearing conversion, make sure that you get bears from SKF, NSK or similar. The Taper Roller bearings are common as thehy are used on a lot of cars. Most are rubbish with too much noise/vibration. SKF have a higher speed rating.

Ended also replacing the bearing in he clutch as there was a lot of noise there. Still habe to replace the Clutch Thrust bearing and the Oilit bushes. I have the parts now, just need time.

I futted teh gause plate a just over a year a go. No issues with the lead screw alignment

The browser does not let you view it offline, which was Limpet's problem and is a common issue with the browser version.

For reliability set the Pi up to boot and run from an ssd drive. Improves the performance and reliability of the Pi.

SD cards do not survive well the amount and will fail early. From the Pi 3 you can boot directly to the SSD drive.

I have allos fitted the Hemmingway leadscrew thrust bearing as part of reconditioning a 60yo S7. Certainly improved the leadscrew movment, negligible now.

Would say it is a worthwhile modification.

If you look around the specialist woodworking stores sell router extensions with collets to hold the router bits, can be found with Google.

WiFi is best line of sight with no obstructions, even structures in teh house, chimneys, electric cable locations and water pipes as well as wall materials will impact the signal.

The 2.4Ghz range has better distance than 5GHz as well. We moved house recently and I decided to use the higher speed WiFi in the firewall. Bad move, the laptop gets no signal inthe office and the rest were flaky. Laptop only worked if I used another Access Point (AP) to use as a bridge. Dug out an old Cisco Wireless AP, signal better but low speed, connections more stable, laptop still does not work without the bridge.

Purchased a new high speed AP, mostly stable, work laptop still needs bridge.

Best option relocate internet point to Office, and hardwire work laptop. WiFi AP will be closter to center of the house, all should be fine.

Don't troch the antenna in the laptop, you can do nothing, if possible use an ethernet cable.

I am speaking as a senior network engineer employed by a major US telco supporting Data Center networks, I used to be Cisco certified on wireless but let it lapse as it was nto needed.

RDG finally have 34 Tooth gears in stock. They are showing on their websie but not the Ebay store.

I have ordered one and it is currently in transit.

Just ge the bed reground. Others in your region will be able advise as to where to get ths done. If nothing else locate a shop with a surface grinde that will accomodate the bed.

I believe that there is a difference in the bed castings, certainly between the pre and post power crossfeed Super 7's. don't know if the ML7R bed is the same as the Power Crossfeed Super 7.

The machine shop where I spent my 1st 3 months as a trainee Mechanical Engineer in the early 70's had a muchl arger Butler planer. It was in regular use. That shop was built in the early 1960's.

The old machine shop, about 1928 had a vertical wall planer, also in constant use att he time but was gone by the mid 80's.

That is a small planer.

I have moved machines previously on a trailer, using either an engine hoist or chain block to load and unload. Lifting chains and web slings are used assist.

Last machine I moved like that was a 1.2t, 18" Alba Shaper.

I the next couple of months I will, be hiring a 3t trailer to move the lathe, shaper and what else I can fit on the trailer, without overloading it, 1800km.

1.5" pipes make wonderful things to move machines on a concrete floor, in conjunction with a br.

If it is the Motor Pulley for a Super 7 or ML7R, Myford has it.

If you look around you will also find a 2nd hand pulley.

Somehting is wrong, when the clutch is disengaged, it moves away from the cover.

I can open the belt cover on my Super 7, 1958 early cone clutch when both the clutch is engaged and disengaged.

What is the age of your lathe and if an early lathe, which clutch?

Please bear in mind, that you can only store a limited number of issue with Pocket Mags app, before you need to clear all the stored issues, before you can download more on an device with fixed storage such as an Ipad or Android tablet.

Yes the tablet is better reading the current issue, but not convenient for older issues that you are trying find an article in.

When it works the archive can be better for the older issues, the inability to print is a retrograde step. I Australia we could probaly argue that consurer law has been breached by removing feature that was available whe we subscribed.

I do not know if the same would apply in the UK, perhaps someone else could comment.

I have seen your printing issues with Firefox, never tried IE. The best success that I have had with printing is using the Google Chrome browser.

For power crossfeed on the S7 you need to purchase the nut/screw assembly, otherwise you can just purchase the nut, unless it has worked hard in an industrial environment. My S7 was 25 years in an industrial setting, I replaced the nuts when i acquired it.

Everything else can usually be fixed by adjustment

You have to rember that these sytem are often driven by marketing, thinking some gimick would be a good selling point. They then pish the software programers to put it in the next model, even if it does not work.

The IT industry has been doing this for years. The clasic was Oracle in the early to mid 90's who released a version full of new features that marketing wanted as selling points. Took 27 maintenance releases to get it working.

As for Car computers, look at the Discovery 3, the dash lights up like a Christmas tree, the vehicle lowers, transmission fault, speed drops to less than 30kmph. Pull over turn off, wait 30 seconds restart. Root c cause is usually one of several things

1. faulty stop light switch, replace.

2. faulty stop/tail light bulb, or not original., but can fit led

3. faulty body earth connection

Had this several times lately, lossening and retightening the earth bolt on the body seems to have fixed the issue.

My 1958 S7 the raised lettering was a a cream/white, same as the centre of the bed.

Do not bring applinaces like fridges and freezers. They can have problems with the humidity, particularly frost free. They remove a lot of humidity from the fridge, which tehy then evaporate into the the surruounding air. Fridges not built for Australia often cannot evaporte enough of teh condesate and it will overflow and end on the floor.

A sister in law brought a fidge from Iman and has had this issue. Cannot get it fixed because it is not a local model. I have also had teh problem with a Fridge built in Brisbane, Teh manufacturer had to take it back and modify it.

Also voltages can be higher, up to 250 to 260V. Over 20 years ago it was agreed to drop teh ominal voltage to 220, from 240V. Queensland has been slow at this, wath with electronics.

Also be aware ov severe Electrical storms.

If you are hving a problem with Pocket Mags viewer, log a case with them. I use the Pocket Mags viewer on an Android, works fine, but have never bother to print from it .

If I want to print I always use Chrome on a linux PC. There was an issue recently when Pocket Mags updated their HTML5 viewer, it would not print. I submitted case withthem and it was fixed in a couple of days.

When you submit a case with Pocket Mags list the OS and Browser, with version if you know it. They will investigate the issue.

As regarding the new archive viewer, yes a poll on the printing option is an excellent idea.

Once the html5 Archive Viewer is fixed, long term cosideration should be given to converting the flash to HTML5. I would be surprised if there i not a program that will do the conversion.
