Thread: SINO SDS2L DRO Problem?
25/03/2016 16:18:11

Have you tried pressing the "ZERO" key on the top row?

Also try "0" then "ENTER"

Last resort Read the Intruction Manual?

P.S. Just did some digging and found "Select Axis then press CLS"

You don't need to be doing a lot of screwcutting to justify a gearbox on a Myford, because it's also used to provide a range of feed rates for normal turning.

Possibly re-thread the arbor for one of these :- **LINK** (scroll down the page for the R8 arbor).

Thread: Myford DRO and Taper Turning attachment
25/01/2016 20:48:03

Matt, I paid £1,440 inc VAT and carriage for the Myford specific kit (600-82942) in January 2015, but that was with 5 micron scales, rather than the 10 micron scales supplied as standard.

I had thought of mounting the Z scale on the front of the bed, below the leadscrew and saddle, to avoid the issue altogether, but I've not looked too far into this.

Kwil, once I'd proved that a longer scale was needed (I had to email them a few photos), they sent the longer scale out FOC. The original scale would probably be fine on a ML7. I have to agree that they are very helpful.

Brian, thanks for the background information. The system has changed quite a bit over the years, the reading heads are quite a bit smaller and the current DP700 display unit is packed with both Milling and Turning functions.

Thread: Metric lead screw on a Myford Super 7
24/01/2016 16:34:32

Myford 7 series lathes all have Leadscrews that are 8 tpi (1/8" pitch), that's why the imperial handwheel reads 0 to125 and the metric handwheel reads 0 to 3.18mm (1/8" = 3.175mm)

The pump washer you need is a CUP form, try here:- **LINK**

although they are for Tilly lamps, there should be the size you need listed.

Brian Wood, the 600-82942 Kit that Newall supply to fit a Myford, DID have a scale that is too short for a Long Cross Slide (by 2"/50mm using their brackets), as I personally experienced in 2015.

Thread: Harrison L5 problem
23/01/2016 22:37:45

Right, first off all of you, READ THE FIRST POST THERE IS NO CHUCK , OR TAILSTOCK INVOLVED, secondly WE DO NOT KNOW THE HISTORY/AGE OF THE LATHE so what the manufacturer recommended years ago is irrelevant NOW!

Ian Parkin, work held in chuck at an angle will not turn parallel, WRONG, THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!

Phil Whitley, THE USER HAS FOUND AN ISSUE, THAT'S WHY THEY ASKED FOR ADVICE!!!

Yes, use a sharp HSS tool to do the fine machining and use a reasonable diameter bar (probably at least 1"/25mm on an L5) BUT DO NOT USE ANY FORM OF STEADY.

Rant over .

The lathe probably needs a final "Tweek " as in what's termed Leveling, where the bed mounting points at the tailstock end, are shimmed front or back as required, to eliminate the slight twist in the bed that is causing the taper.

Although depending on the machines use, it could also be caused by bed wear.

Don't turn between centres until the lathe turns parallel when you machine the bar as you've done so far (relive the mid portion of your bar to leave larger diameters at each end, this saves tool wear and time machining the full length).

When the machine turns parallel without tailstock support, you can then progress to aligning the tailstock.

Thread: Myford DRO and Taper Turning attachment

Hi JA,

search for "Newall DRO" and some more info comes up or try this link:-

http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=53720

Didn't realise you had a readout already fitted, in which case my setup will probably be of little use to you, as I don't have a Taper Turning Attachment.

Beware, the X axis (cross slide) scale that Newall supply in their Myford Kit, is too short for the travel available with the long Cross slide on a S7. Clearance can be an issue at the back of the machine with the longer scale needed, so make sure your'e not too close to a wall.

If you need photos and/or measurements regarding the above, let me know and I'll sort some out.

To Mick H, may be some confusion here-see my post about freeview box turning itself off, I think Nick's post may have been reply to me, I may be mistaken but his suggestion works for me,

Mick

Ahh, I didn't realise that there was a Mick H involved in this thread (I must start to read all threads from the start),

so apologies for the confusion caused.

DAB ok in the Home, workshop and the car for me.

Mick H, connect the freeview box to your TV (so that you can see the menu) and disable the Auto Off/Sleep setting, then return it to your workshop.

Thread: The Workshop/Garage

Note the word "Find" crops up a lot regarding any Torch.

Personally I'd rather not have to "Find" anything to light my way, hence I've fitted three emergency light units, one in my workshop/garage, one in the house (in the larder where the consumer unit is and has a glass panel door, so it will also light the hallway) and one in the attic.

ega, the scan of the catalogue came from a thread on another forum that I follow, here:-

Worth registering, as it's not just welding that's discussed on there.

The same for Michael, worth asking about your second vice on that thread.
