Bill This is a Ctek brand smart charger I bought one last year after the battery in my wife’s car died. The battery was only a couple of years old but the car has very little use and the battery had been left partially discharged for some time. This charger has a few functions to try to restore a battery and can also be left connected for a car that isn’t used much. I bought after looking for recommendations on line. It seems popular with owners of classic and expensive cars. Stuart
I have the same one. Bought to perk up the battery on my Forester e-boxer. I have 2 Yuasa 12V 10Ah batteries in the shed, long time ( 2-3 years ) since used or charged. One was showing a terminal voltage of ( IIRC ) some 4-ish volts and the other about 5-ish. The CTEK seems to have resurrected both after a fairly long performance both went into "7". Just put one on about 2 hours ago and it's back up. ( in some time < 2 hours, didn't watch over it ). The other is now hooked up. Charging. See what transpires.

Quality is fine for my requirements for not too many ££s. Although the P&P cranks the cost up if you come below the 'Free P&P' threshold. D. |

Thread: Book Your Covid Booster! Errr, How? Where? |
11/11/2021 07:52:22 |
Reading some previous posts I now feel rather pampered. Got a text message from Surgery to book for flu and COVID Booster at Babington Hospital, Belper. Booked online for 10:10 AM Tues. 10 min. drive, parked up at 09:55. Bit of a queue but it was always moving. Jab in each arm, then wait 15 mins. Drove out at 10:20. Home at 10:30. Some 47 mins. door to door ... so the NHS can work

Thread: Time code Updates with clock change |
01/11/2021 09:23:02 |
My Acctim in the w/shop had changed by 08:30 ( GMT ). No idea where it derives it's signal. When I replace the battery it gallops around to 12 o'clock then usually waits a bit then resets to correct time. Had it for years, always seems to perform. Don't recollect ever having to intervene. D. Just found the Instructions PDF. Apparently MSF, 60 KHz, Anthorn, Cumbria.

Thread: WM18 spindle heat |

My WM18 ( not used a lot in the 18 months I've had it ) bearings run warm. Probably around 40 - 50C after about half an hour at 1500 RPM .
Beware your IR thermometer. Mine is wildly out on a reflective surface. Just tried it and I get 57C on a radiator but 103C on the chrome body of the thermostat which is about 4" away.

Had mine last Saturday, 12:20 PM. Woke up at about 03:30, shoulder in agony. Roundly cursed Astra Zeneca until I realised it was the left shoulder and I had the jab in the right. Other than that it seemed to have no effect whatsoever. Why do they ask ' What ethnicity do you consider yourself to be' ? Didn't realise we had a choice. Tried 'Little Sweetie' but that didn't work so settled for White British. Have the flu jab every year and they never seem to have any effect, adverse or otherwise. Seem to remember having TABT, Yellow Fever and another ( Polio ? ) one afternoon in July '62 RAF Bridgnorth but felt nowt although some keeled over .. ?? D.

Thread: T51 Dixon style tool holders? |
13/11/2020 11:28:42 |
I had the same 'effect' with mine. Clamps on one face but not t'other. Well, they did but not very effectively. If you faff about as I did swapping bits around to see just what the hell was going on you may find, as it appears Mr. Hinckley did, that the discrepancy lies with the ( WARCO ) tool-post parts. In my case was one of the pistons / top-hats. I don't have a work-around. I only use one face at a time anyway. Now I know what the game is it doesn't cause me any problems. If I get really chokker with it I'll make another piston. The two WARCO tool-holders clamp up at different 'angles of clamp' on the wrench depending on which face I use.
Summary: I have 8 toolholders. 2 WARCO & 6 RDGT51 ALL fit on one clamping face. The RDG holders don't clamp properly on the other. The 2 WARCO holders need more clamping on the second face. The effect follows the piston on face 2. D.

I have had the items from RDG and they fit my WM280. Just had a look and they don't seem to be listed at RDG now. I seem to recall they are/were described as T51 ( ? ) with a 16mm slot. But you would need to verify that with RDG themselves. D.

Conformal Coating ? Sticks to clean copper PCB. Can be removed with cellulose thinner. Not sure how it would stand up to being abraded though. Other stuff that springs to mind is Rustin's Metal Lacquer.

Hi, can anyone recommend a motor overhaul place in the Derby area. My lathe motor has developed an issue so need to get it looked at. Cheers
Bowers Electrical Heanor ?? You could try them but they are at the 'big stuff' end of the trade. Could well be cheaper to get a new motor. Used to use a firm in ( Shaftesbury St. ? ) but I think they're long gone.

Thread: Coping with voltage spikes |

Wow, this one's gone on a bit I think Malcolm was on the right lines. Connect a LM317T as a current limiter with a 120R resistor will give circa 10mA. That's where I would start. Cost about 50p. If the problem still persists then it may be you need someone with a scope to see what's really going on. Meters, analogue or digital are often of little help under such circumstances.

+1 for Proxxon, but .... I have a 'set' of these, issued years ago at work. ( I was actually issued with TWO sets but I didn't feel it was my place as a lowly Fault Ferret to embarrass them by pointing out the deficiencies in their arithmetic skills ).
Rather heavy on the beer fund though ..
EDIT don't know what went wrong with the link... Search ebay UK for STAHLWILLE 16

Live Steam Models ( Little Eaton ) appear to list it on their cat. page 09/101. £1.00 / metre. I believe they are trading postal only at the moment. Not sure of that or if it's from sheared sheet. You could enquire 01332 830811.

I have the following connector system on some small audio interfaces which would work well the male plugs (8mm wide) have small screw fixtures for the wires - however I don't know the manufacturer Colour looks a bit like Camdenboss. The O.P. might look here to see if there is anything suitable. ttps://cpc.farnell.com/w/c/cable-leads-connectors/connectors/pcb-connectors/pcb-terminal-blocks/pluggable-terminal-block-headers-sockets/prl/results?brand=camdenboss&pageSize=100 D.
