Thread: Simplex Axle pump |

If Duncan's calculations are correct for the original pump then, a 0.75in diameter piston in a conventional pump (I think we all know what that is) with a stroke of 1in, would deliver a smidge more and be a whole lot simpler? |

I think I have a new hobby. having found a route to actually subscribing ..the payment page of "me.secureorder.co.uk/index.php?cl=payment&&" etc. sets off both firefoxes security and kaspersky ..... this from a site whose purpose is to process online payments.... I hope MTM can get their money back. I am not using them. thusly I shall not be renewing my subs.. though more fairly " I shall not be renewing my subs ...... through these jokers" Edited By jason udall on 20/10/2015 21:13:34 Jason, you had it right first time I think. Most people will not go out of their way to subscribe and you did more than most would expect to do. I think the best feedback is voting with your feet, having told them why. You can always try to come back later and if the process has improved, join again. Then you will be a new customer, be treated better and maybe get a gift! |

I dont think i will bother re-queening this one again, let them get on with it and see how it goes. Clive Come on Clive - we are all with you! Alternatively, you could try the Model Engineering Clearing House Forum - there are probably more than enough queens on there. |

It will be far to modern for me. I still have a pair of BBC micros - a B and a Master Neil Do you still use them? Would be good if you do. It was just amazing what they got into 32k of memory. I think Microsoft should take a look back and learn something about concise programming and boot-up times. Like Ketan says - "damn Microsoft" - but they have got us hooked! Thread: Pansy - where does the lubricator go?? |
05/04/2015 10:24:19 |
Apologies, I should have said hydrostatic, not displacement in the above (I think). Too late to edit. Looks like Terry has the answer for you. Edited By Anthony Kendall on 05/04/2015 10:27:21 Edited By Anthony Kendall on 05/04/2015 10:37:03 |

You seem to have decided on a mechanical lubricator. There is another alternative - a displacement lubricator. The picture shows one fitted to a Pansy cab - the output remains to be connected at the top and down through the hole next to the boiler. The expansion tank fits neatly under the floor between the back axle and the brake operating shaft. The cab of 5764 - the lubricator flow sight glasses are on the right (I think!) All included in the best possible taste - it is probably not viable to change course now. Hope it goes OK. Thread: A Word of Warning |
05/02/2015 10:19:58 |
Interestingly, or perhaps not, there is a bloke who sells new plywood tops for the original B&D workmates - WM750 etc. The price is twice that of a Wickes Workmate. The difference I suspect between chipboard, MDF and ply is not only price - the first two give way with little warning as more pressure is applied, whilst plywood is more robust and also gives gives more warning. Isn't the solution not to use a workmate as a stepladder? (I know, we all do naughty things sometimes!). If you buy cheap you have to respect the limitations. In other words, you get what you pay for. IMHO of course. |

I totally agree with Howard regarding the width of aisles at the Fosse, even trying to move around the stands is hard work at most times of the day until mid afternoon. The organisers obviously want to make as much from rented stand space as the site will allow and fail to consider the impact on those attending. While in a moaning mood I found the newly spread 25mm stone paths in the car park painful and dangerous to walk on, why didn't the contractor employed do a proper job and roll them in. Emgee Hope you feel better now. Such a terrible and dangerous place - best you do not risk going again - then there will be more room for us! |
Thread: Pansy - cab floor |

Phil, I think you will have to decide what year your model is going to be. My stuff says the bunker is black inside in all guises.. However, it says the inside cab roof was loco green between 1929 and 1945, probably the most popular era modelled, and 1945 onwards it is all in the sexy black. The roof on the pictures above seems to be cream though. These pictures of 5764 show the step and the cab roof in cream also. Beware - preserved locos are not always correct - they have as much trouble as the modellers in getting it right and often have to just "go for it." Their objectives are different though. All is not lost though, .......I still have ..... and prefer FM to DAB! I just wonder why?
All DAB has done so far is allow me to enjoy a genuine AM radio experience without the dial twiddling! Neil Mmm! Carefully forgetting MF has more than 20dB compression, band limited to less than 5kHz with at least 5% distortion as against 15kHz and 0.1% distortion. I digress - not relevant to model engineering. Tony.

Hi, Dear Mr. Needles & Pinza, "A Versatile Driving Truck" by Alan Bibby, Model Engineer January 30, February 27, March 27, April 24, and May 22, 1998 is a driving truck which is quickly convertable for 5" and 7¼ ground level and 5" raised track. By that I mean it can do them all. It has disc brakes and is two axle.

Thread: I've bought a 7R [ Myford, not AJS ] |

I bought a new 7-R (lathe, not bike) some time in the 1970s and kept it for around 20 years. Even after I had "replaced" it with a Super 7 I couldn't bear to sell it. The daftest thing I ever did was part with it when I got married and moved to Scotland in the mid-1990s. I have just found a photo of it, and I can read the serial number - KR135164. Before I parted with it I painted it blue, so that it looked better when I used it in some magazine illustrations. Just wonder if anyone out there is its proud owner today... Regret I do not have it, but you give the impression you thought it was superior to the Super 7. I just wondered why. Edited By Anthony Kendall on 04/09/2014 11:12:52 |

It would be nice to see a balance sheet from the organisers. With a breakdown of how many visitors @ £????p each how many traders @ £????p and how much it cost to organise £???????p. but I don't suppose we'll ever see one. Dave. Trying not to offfend, but you will not - mainly because it is none of your, or anyone else's business - now is it?
