Good Morning Les thank you very much i will order the switches i will probably have some more questions when they arrive.

Bodge i have both workshop practice books and a multi meter also the model engineer's handbook chapter 12 but with electricity i like to double check or you could have a shocking time.I have learnt a lot from books and magazines but with electricity i like to read about it and double check with people who know about it.

Thanks again to you all for your time and trouble. Graham

A big thank you to all who gave their time and trouble to help to sort out my problem.I think you might have sorted it out for for me. I borrowed a 10uf 400volt capacitor and wired it in as suggested to z2 and neutral and changed the u1 and u2 over to get it to run the direction i want for now.I have not tried a NVR switch yet but will do so when i have got a cradle made up to fit it .I have taken Les advice and ordered a wired capacitor and would be grateful for a wiring diagram to fit a reverse in the future .Thanks again to every body it is nice to keep learning something new.

PS i found a website that helps to interpret motor plates

Hi i hope i have just loaded two photos to a album, there should be one of the plate and another of the wiring in the connecting box. Martin i have just run the motor when i switched on it just buzzed and when i twisted the shaft either way it just run silently with a very slight hum.Graham

Hi i have recently bought point.3kw electric motor it will sit there buzzing but will not run unless you spin it with your finger and will then go in either direction.I was told it was working when it was removed for a 3phase conversion.I hope to use it to power a small tool and cutter grinder and wonder if it needs a start capacitor so i can use it with a nvr switch. Unfortunately i cannot get a photos to upload to a album at the moment.

Hi for removing the 3 jaw chuck a short piece of hexagon bar, i use 3/4 or 19mm ,a good fitting spanner and a sharp tap with a copper hammer. For the 4 jaw a piece of square about the same size but a bit more fiddly.Graham

Hi Rik i had a similar type of readout some years ago that died because of condensation getting inside it with all this damp weather it could cause a problem with it. As a aside i left a mp3 player in the workshop for a couple of days and that suffered the same problem, bought inside and after a couple of days it worked again.

Thread: What is the most useful workshop tool that you have made?
15/11/2015 07:29:36

Hi Alan sorry i have only just checked the design i used came from Model Engineer 31 March 2006.

The threading attachment by Jacques Maurel which is quick and simple to set up on my metric emco lathe and saves changing the quadrant when i cut imperial threads and a version of the tangential tool holder for finishing small diameters.both of which are getting a lot of use building a 3" traction engine,a 5"railmotor, tooling as above, bits for a motorbikes, odd bits for the house and car and jobs for my son.

Hi as i said this morning with the chester version i used a nut and a long ring spanner and built the Anthony Mount trapezium engine with it.

http://www.pollymodelengineering.co.uk/sections/stationary-engines/anthony-mount-models/trapezium-Connecting-Rod-Engine.asp

The ring would often vibrate down but the head would stay in place but when you are using the lathe it is useful to push the milling head 90 degrees out of the way.

Hi with my Chester version i made a washer 2inches diameter and used a standard nut with a long spanner or socket on it to get plenty of leverage.

It is all very well slating off far eastern products but without them myself and a good many more would not be members of this forum or be able to afford to do model engineering.

Could anybody help with the dimensions for jacking pin and the jacking nut for the vertical milling head and is it possible to run the three phase version of the machine with the two speed motor with a inverter or a converter. Thanks Graham
