I just blame my wife for using the tumble drier.

You can buy a solution for cleaning clock plates and wheels we just called it “pickle” by the smell ammonia based. The brass would come out clean it could then be polished on a polishing wheel or if a less shiny finish was reguired a fine wire brush wheel.

Have a look for an old British rotary table I bought an 8” one looked like it had never been used just painted a few times. Got it off eBay for £80 an absolute bargin just a matter of waiting till the right one turned up too big for most model engineer machines.

Here is my rather dusty steam launch with a Reeves V twin double acting oscillator, centre flue boiler and a petrol blow lamp. The engine has a throttle and it also does ahead and astern but not 100% reliable. Never caused a problem while I have been sailing it and it’s done a fair bit.

Take the plan to a copy shop and ask them to print it off twice full-size. I use our local one they are very helpful getting drawings to the sizes I want and not expensive.

I am with KWILL on this we used a local university engineering department and their final year students to design a piece of plastic extrusion downstream handling equipment as a project for them and we would pay for it to be built.

The build was started by a local engineering company that was our go to supply for this type of project. It proved to be very difficult to build even after checking by by the head of department. The project was abandoned as not viable to make as it needed a total redesign.

I have done a lot of interviewing during my working life, I would always be wary of someone who was over qualified or their experience was greater than required for the vacant position. I learnt from experience that some of these people used the job as a stop gap until something better came along or were only going to stop long enough to fill a missing skill on their CV.

If I had to choose between someone over qualified or someone under qualified I would take the later smaller salary but we grow them to suit our industry and this would be then reflected in their salary.

According to my local ME club I am not a model engineer because I don’t make and run steam loco’s. But my father was a working clockmaker who made his living making clocks said I was an engineer.

The Chuck looks tired and knocked about, have the jaws gone bell mouthed? so not gripping the bar very tightly. What type of insert are you using not many like taking 1/2 thou cuts unless it’s a sharp silver one for aluminium.

I spent a long time in the plastics in my opinion you are wasting your time. In one of my laboratories we had a small simple injection moulder, made by a well known test equipment manufacturer for moulding tensile test samples what it produced was very inconsistent. You would get short shots voids etc in mouldings lucky to get one in ten that was any good. No good for test work. We tried to use it for polypropylene and high density polyethylene. The machine ended up in the scrap metal skip. It was replaced by a proper small injection moulder that made consistent test pieces, filled the hopper with plastic pressed the start button and left it to it.

Good luck with you your project it will be interesting and probably frustrating, injection moulding is a interesting process but not certainly not simple.

I pretty much use M machine for all my metal requirements, always get good service and products. I like that you can buy metal of a known specification.

I have built the high speed marine steam engine, it’s a while ago but I don’t remember any problems with the build. It’s now in a boat with flash boiler it gets up and planes no problem at all.

I found spiral flute taps worked better when I was doing the starting grove in steel flywheels for model boats.

Having just watched the video posted by Emgee I am going to stick with 360. I have found it hard work to get to the level I am at, I have no intention of starting again with another package.

if my little cnc mill runs a little slower I can spare the time it can also do things that I cannot do on a manual mill. I was considering giving the machine to my son but he’s now going to have to wait a little longer.

Jason thanks for the help it’s going to be an interesting project, I am going to build a car for an attempt on the all British car record. now have a track in the UK we can run cars on.

Here is the chassis the solid parts in the middle will be machined to fit the engine and gearbox the little rectangular boxes will but cut and used as brackets.
