No 4 almost certainly from a microscope stage. Possibly Vickers looking at the shape.

inverter 2.jpgJust looked and my cover plate is the same as "mad-modder's" - just need to know where to look! I have added images of the little inverter I have which is 240v single phase in and 240v 3 phase out it is a KBMA-24D, 24DF 2 for 1/8HP thru 1HP 3-Phase AC Motors rated 208 – 230 VAC, 50* & 60 Hz. Once again thank you all for taking so much time to help it really is appreciated. I will also update my profile which will show I am on the edge of North and West Yorks. Many thanks. Once again very many thanks for all the help offered here, the depth and breadth of knowledge is a wonderful resource. I am going to try and run it from my 3phase 240v as per Andrew@s suggestion, it is a hobby drill after all, whilst I get rid of the Transwave and obtain something more suitable. Thank you all. David

motor plate.jpgGood evening, first of all I hope this post is in the right place? I have been lucky enough to secure a Startrite pillar drill which is fitted with a three phase motor which the original owner ran on 440v. Knowing nothing of 3 phase I purchased Graham Astbury's book on the subject and am a little confused by what I have read - my fault not the author's! The plate on my motor is as shown which, according to the book, should be a four wire motor as it shows dual voltage on the plate but only three wires and an earth are present and no wire to the neutral inside the motor. Having bought a Transwave unit some time ago which is too big and will have to go back to Fleabay - I though I had better stop and ask for some sensible advice. So is this motor purely 440v or am I able to run it on a 3phase supply outputting 220/250v with three phases? I have also been given one of these as well. Hope this is clear. Many thanks in advancewiring.jpg. David

My suggestion was to check out the design for ideas not to copy. Kindest regards David

Might be worth checking the "Gingery shaper". The majority of which could be easily constructed from sheet materials instead of castings That's where I am looking at the moment. Book still available from various suppliers

Mike, many thanks for the heads up greatly appreciated. I was under the inpression they were similar. When I can get to the back of the garage I will check to make sure just what I have. Cheers David

Thanks Graham, you have just spurred me on. I have not done any casting since I was at school (ally and brass) but have been working on patterns for the Gingery shaper some of which I will cast at home though the main side parts I think will be from sheet as per Dias Costa's lovely machine. Also part way through building the Gingery furnace (well I a very old and empty gas cylinder cut in two, and a bag of vermiculite sat in the garage) with a few minor changes - to be fuelled with either propane or charcoal. I thought to use the recipe given in Mikesworkshop. Just need a couple of forty eight hour days to bring it all together.

Hi Alex, I have recently started making patterns for the "Gingery Shaper". Furnace will also be along Gingery lines - charcoal fired. I already have a gas cylinder cut and suitable fan sourced, off to local tip in morning to look for hoover type stainless tubes for air inlet. Recipe for foundry liner can be found here **LINK** cheers for now. David

Evening all, just been reading this thread with just a hint of concern. Use lights, very spiky plants and make "safe" noises to scare the herberts away. Please do not think of pyrotechnics of any sort, it will end in tears. Your local Constabulary will take a very dim view of such devices (trust me, I am a CSI) **LINK** If they have decided to come in you will not keep them out. Make entry as difficult as possible and hope they break into next door's shed instead - harsh but that is where society is at present. P.S. Make sure the hinge side of the door is as secure as the lock side. So easy to snap wood at the hinges and leave the expensive bullet proof padlock in place. Also secure the roof firmly, on most sheds these pull up and off with minimal effort!. Sorry to be so gloomy so early in the New Year, all the best. David

Andrew/Norman, please be assured this lady will not be in next weeks recycling. New home and new owner, she will be cleaned and fettled over the winter with a nice new coat of paint. I have emailed Blackgates to see if plans are still available, if not we I will see what I can do myself. I think just inserts are missing so will have a go at these. Thank you both very much for such a speedy reply, greatly appreciated

This morning I picked up what I thought was to be a new photographic project and a motor for the Rapidor. Bought on a whim from an auction house having just seen one picture (how risky was that?). Turns out to be a tool cutter/grinder but of unknown origin. I certainly will not be hack/modding this one but would love to hear from any one who is able to identify the beast. There are no makers marks appart from the motor which is Czech. All threads and bearings appear to have no play and I only paid double figures. It was listed as "belt driven machine" and I paid only double figures for it, just above half way to treble figures! There are no other parts with it but I am sure these may be made. One happy bunny todayimg_0053a.jpgimg_0051a.jpg
