Thread: Milling Machines
20/01/2013 00:11:01

Humm well this is all fun but as i am not a engineer nor trained all i can say is you get what you pay for.I have a lux mill and a comet vs lathe. Thay are not high precision machines as i could not afford to pay tens of thousands but they are still more accurate than me, yes the mill needed a little squaring up on the head but youtube showed me how to do that.

As ketan has been very open about his machines i find that refreshing rather than being told the usual sells spin just to get my money. If you want a rolls royce buy and pay there price, thats just the way the world works.

I have a Clarke bandsaw which is a bit sore on blades. Where did you get the bimetal ones from?

Hi sandy, heres the item number on ebay 370598103846

I picked up a old clarke 6x4 one a few years back for 50 quid, the guy that had it bought it second hand. It's old as the hills but i fitted a bimetal blade and trued up the guides abit and it runs sweet as a nut and cuts very straight. Probably one of my best buys, saves the old elbows.

Terryd is correct, you don't buy software any more, you are getting it on lease basically. You never own it just the right to use it.

I use a digital download service for software which has over 130 programs on it with keys.Thing is i cant sell/pass on any of these to some one else. As they are linked to my account. pita i know. the reason is simple, money. One license one sale.

Thread: High Frequency lighting problem.

Funny you should bring this up as i fitted 2 4f twin lights too that are hf , I had to take one of the tubes out to get the second light to work other wise it just flickered then both tubes would go off. Not sure how to sort it out tbh.

They don't heat the workshop but they keep dew/damp of my machines.Cheep too, only 20 quid each on fleabay

Thread: Cutting digital readout scales
22/11/2012 07:47:31

When i had them i cut mine with a 6x4bandsaw, did a fine job. Not sure about the dremel tho, those disks can build up a far bit of heat the speeds they run at.

Thread: 53 tooth gear
14/11/2012 22:05:35

The gear is for a small worm drive inside a single drive unit for a wheel chair, it's only around 62mm dia and some bright spark thought it would be great idea to make it from plastic with teeth that have no profile at all, the look as if they have been cut with a hack saw, dead straight no kidding. Didn't get much time in the cave today but I'll get the plate finished tomorrow, again thanks all for the help.

14/11/2012 09:47:42

Good lord Richard that's scary looking to me, but looks very nice too. thanks for replying. Off now to make a 53 hole plate, hopefully....laugh

14/11/2012 09:41:28

Thanks Andrew, I'll give it a whirl and see what comes out .We never did any fractiions/prime numbers etc at school, takes abit of getting yer head around. embarrassed

So this is the first time i have ever needed to cut a gear and its a 53 tooth one, i have a rotary table with dividing plates but no 53 plate. So i was thinking i have a mill with a dro that can do pcd's, so i could use this to make a 53 plate. Now here's my question my rt is 90/1 so after alot of reading i think i need 1turn and 37 holes ? does this sound right ? I have no engineering training at all apart from books ie workshop practice series. thanks
