im looking for an 18tooth tufnol tumbler gear.

Hi I looked on EBay. and they are less expensive on the Myford site see http://www.myford.co.uk/acatalog/Myford_Gears.html

Looks like the eBay ones are loaded to give free postage !

Regards John

Those red ones off Ebay are the wrong type of material, you might as well use putty.

Are those 7/16" bore Becky ?

Hi there, Rebekah,

Are you sure you need two-off? The parts list on the Mytholmroyd-Myford web-site specifies one-off 18 tooth, 75/1241 and one-off 20 tooth, 75/1242, (per lathe).

Best regards,

Swarf, Mostly!

Swarf, Only Becky can answer this one as her lathe is a much modified ML4 and I dare say nothing is standard.

Hi there, Rebekah & JS,

Oops!!! My mistake!!!

The part numbers I quoted in my earlier post are for the steel gears that the Tufnol ones replace.

The part numbers Mytholmroyd-Myford quote for the Tufnol gears are:

A1781, (B36, Reference Number 498), 18 teeth, £17.68 + VAT.,

A1782, (B35, Reference Number 499), 20 teeth, £17.68 + VAT.,

All the tumbler reverse set-ups I have encountered use two non-identical gears (idlers).

Regarding your point, John, I guess that can only be resolved by a comparison of the gear centre distances and spindle diameters on the ML4 and ML7.

Best regards,

Swarf, Mostly!

My old (Very) change gear Colchester had different size gears.... Is it not to do with allowing them to clear the spindle gear when being rotated?

probably, on my mini-lathe the large gear is in permanent mesh and the smaller gear is 'free'.

Swarf, Be hard to say what they are because if I remember the thread correctly Beckys machine as posted had been seriously updated so might have a ML4 tumbler on it or a ML7 tumbler on it.

This is Becky's lathe but the tumbler isn't that clear.

With the alloy extension piece it looks more like a pimped up ML4 as opposed to the stubby acorn ML7.

Would be nice to know what bore they are.

Hello all

Tony Griffiths' site has a photo of an ML4 fitted with an ML7 tumbler reverse, including the reverse lever/gear carrier.
