Just sent one to you and it seems to have gone OK.

Can you reply to it and let me know what message you are trying to reply to and I will try the same one.

Should be sorted now see my latest PM to you.

As a note to others the problem seemed to be a large number of Re, Re, Re, Re, etc left in the subject box one of which is added each time a reply is added to the same original message so worth deleting them out of the subject box as there is not likely to be much hope of getting MEM to alter the software.

We have no problems modifying our (MEM) software, even I can do it wink 2

Other forums have their own problems features.

Microsoft "invented" this problem in Outlook/Outlook-Express, what ..... 15 years ago? .....while other mail/newsreader clients realised that it only made sense to add a Re if there isn't one there already.

So it's surfaced again ..... plus ça change!

Hi all, I have not come across this particular problem with PMs in six years worth of my own PMs, so please can you email me some details to [email protected], and I'lll try to fix it for you.

As with any other website related problems, I can't keep an eye on every thread in 20 website forums, so please email me or ask your moderators to email me on your behalf and I will try to sort these problems out. I do bookmark threads where I know there is a problem, but if someone starts a new one, I won't know unless it is escalated.

Thanks

Katy

Hi Katy.
It was me who emailed Brian and accidentally put an extra apostrophe in the subject (Your Inverter''s for sale) each time either Brian or myself replied the number of apostrophe's doubled! I think this may have been the problem rather than the number of Re's in the subject as I have exchanged emails before more often with no problem.

Hi Ian, Bri and Jason

It is partly down to the apostrophes, as these need to be escaped before they can be put into the database, so each apostrophe will generate two more when you send your message. Eventually, the subject becomes so long it has to be truncated, and if this happens at the point where an apostrophe has not been escaped, ie there are are two where the database needs three, then it causes an error! I've had messages with many many Re's in the subject, but never had the apostrophe problem, so it's not that common.
