How do we search by the thread number?
Paul Fallert | 13/09/2013 21:45:57 |
89 forum posts 3 photos | Each thread in the Forums has a number (see that number in the window at the top of the computer screen, not the MEW screen). Can we search the Forum to 1) go back to a favorite thread or 2) refer to that thread in a posting? I've tried using the regular search engine and it does not find threads by their internal forum number. Is there a way? Paul

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | You would have to have made a note of the thread number to search for it so why not just type that number into the end of the url on your browser you can link to any URL so again put the URL of the thread into your post or better still use the link icon. |

89 forum posts 3 photos | Your suggestion worked by adding the thread number to the end of the complete routing sequence as in this example: www.model-engineer.co.uk/forms/postings.asp?th=####### works a treat. BTW, it didn't work when I just added the thread number. The "th=" must mean "thread equals" Thanks for the help. Paul

![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | Sorry Paul ... you beat me to it I meant to say ... use the search box at the upper right of the centre column on the home-page, NOT the one at upper left of the page. MichaelG. . Edit: Forget this "clarification" ... Posts crossed in the æther

I've tried using the regular search engine and it does not find threads by their internal forum number. If you mean the search at the top of the thread listing, it's because that only searches thread titles. It won't find keywords in the thread body either. As Michael pointed out, you have to use the Google site-search on the main page to do anything other than very basic searching ( it was added a few years ago because of complaints about the basic search). |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | The other option is to use the forums "bookmark" option. Right at the bottom of the thread below the add posting box is "bookmark this thread" which will add it to the bookmarks so if you go to your account and click bookmarks it will list any marked threads so no need to search them out as well as alert you to new posts in the thread.

![]() 4318 forum posts 291 photos 1 articles | Just for completeness yopu can add "p=" and page number at the end as well. http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=87816&p=1 The "&" inserts a space between the thread number and the "p". But this does sound like the a hard way of doing things. Neil |
