![]() 168 forum posts 12 photos | Steel should give more grip than C Iron - A lot of free carbon powder in the iron which is why it is used in friction positions (Pistons/Rings/Cylinders to name a few) Full size locos had steel tyres on C Iron wheels to give better grip and longer lasting - Also it was easier to replace a tyre than to replace the whole wheel - Have seen quite a few steel wheels on model locos. |

![]() 856 forum posts 212 photos | The battery locos all seem to have steel wheels and they all run well enough. We used our club loco at the weekend for public running and it pulls really well with a full load.
