Hand rails Gauge 1 loco

8 forum posts | Whats the best way to attache the very small hand rail stanctions as used on Gauge 1 Lococ's? The ones I have are not threaded and I have been told to soft solder them in. As you known various solders have a wide range of melting points. So what's the best solder, or should I arladite them in. Any advice greatly recieved |

45 forum posts | Hi Alan, The easiest soft solder to use is 60/40 tin lead. Melting point 187deg C. Free flowing producing small neat fillets. For small joints as described use paint. It is 60/40 tin lead powder mixed with a flux and binder. Paint it on the components, assemble and heat gently. Wash with water. Product is readily available. regards

795 forum posts 34 photos | Alan.....a short while ago on the Gauge 1 forum someone gave this advice. If the stancions have have a small spur on the underside, then a 10 or 12 BA thread can be formed and the stancion can then be nutted on. I think the correspondent on the G1 forum backed this up with a touch of solder to hold the nut in place although if you manage to get a good thread I am sure Loctite or similar would do the job. I obtained my stancions from Walsall Models and they have a spur. Mick |

Also available as solder paste in syringes. It is easy to deposit small quantities without waste or mess. Russell. |
