During the summer they take it out and run it up and down the airstrip. It's a regular bike night so folks can incorporate a motorbike ride and see the Lanc trundle up and down. Costs about £10 to go and see. One advantage to being a Tyke in Yellowbelly land

I wonder why this is in the news all of a sudden? It's at East Kirkby, just up the road from the Battle Of Britain Memorial flight. The airfield has had it's runway lifted to make way for housing but the hardstanding is still there and they regularly fire her up and taxi her around. It's well worth going to see the museum.

What/when is a regular bike night? Motorcycle? Every month, say?

I watched a film on the first rebuild in the early 90's - I think they'd got two of the Merlins functional at that time. I seem to remember they were using parts for the engines which weren't certified for flight as the intention at that time was only for the Lanc to taxi.

Good luck to them...

They have their own website, and well worth a good browse, all their meets and 'taxi' booking schedules are on there!

Saw it on the TV news a couple of hours ago, looking good. The one mentioned in NZ is an ex French aircraft, was maritime reconisance base in New Calidonia. Ian S C
