149 forum posts 8 photos | Hi everyone Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement lathe backplate for my Sphere lathe. It needs to be 6 1/2" dia x 1 1/2 x 8 thread. I have tried the usual places that I buy stuff from but no luck. The backplate I have with the 3 jaw chuck will only go 3/4 of the way on the headstock. I have checked for damage but cannot see any. The backplate for the 4 jaw I have fits perfectly but is only 6" dia thanks in advance for any help you can give |

![]() 7468 forum posts 230 photos | The backplate for my 6" 4 jaw chuck started as a flame cut 9" disc of hot rolled steel 2" thick, it had to be mounted slightly eccentric to clear the starting hole for the flame cutting. The most difficult bit of the job was, after buying it, carting it round town until the bus home arrived later in the afternoon, thats a heavy lump of metal. Ian S C |
