2 cyl. steam engine under construction.

![]() 2929 forum posts 41 photos | Here is a 2Cyl. steam engine at the trial assembly point, Just ironing out some of the 'Kinks' that have appeared in the construction. Made mostly from brass and bronze from the scrap box and expensive Hex. screws. The control gear is stainless steel as is the crankshaft. The open crankcases are brazed up and so are the cylinder heads. Now I have to set the sliding steam valves in the right position and add the rest of the screws. Clive

![]() 2929 forum posts 41 photos | Yes Neil, holding all the bits together when brazing the standards was a nightmare, I made a jig to hold it all in place and was able to braze it without losing integrity as I did it. It is made of 9 seperate parts brazed up at the same time. The Cylinder head has 5 parts that needed brazing all at the same time. I did not need a jig for that bit. Again I had to make a jig to hold parts for machining, machining the s/steel was not easy as it spoilt HSS drills and I had to buy Cobalt drills to finish off the holes needed in the linkages. Deciding now whether to leave bare brass or paint it, not sure what to do or colours ? Clive |

![]() 4318 forum posts 291 photos 1 articles | Hi Clive, IWhen I fabricated the standard for an as-yet unfinished engine, I used soft iron wire through drilled holes twisted up tight. The silver solder filled in all the holes and to clean up I just cut teh wires off with side cutters and filed the ends off flush. Neil
